What happend to the EA Official US Servers

There used to be 10 or more WC/EC servers in my server browser but since yesterday there are only 2 or 3 left.

Interesting Javier. I was wondering about that myself. I was thinking that maybe it was related to my filters/browser.

They're all dead, gone. Beginning of the Apocalypse....

lol actually I have no idea.

And a quick ? - aren't these just the 1 server (per 10) that providers are required to give to EA in order to be a Ranked / official partner? If so, who really admins them, EA or the host?

Hah - just found the answer: http://forums.ea.com/mboards/thread....threadID=90189
This quote comes from an admin on the EA UK forums

"The number of EA official servers has been reduced to match the current demand for server space. After a year the number of player spaces required is less than it was so rather than have servers underused we've cut the numbers back a little.

That said we are monitoring the situation and if there is a need for more servers we'll increase the number again. As Sentience pointed out earlier, we've already requested a little more variety in map rotation"

          Bullhockey.

They cannot stand to restart 1000+ dead crashed servers caused by the 1.3 patch.

Besides no one ever go into Official servers because it is most difficult to get Admins 24/7 to rein in and whip crack the stray cattle in line when the usual public server problems crop up.

Or perhaps they just said F Bf2 and took down all their servers so they can make preperations for 2142. I'm tellin' ya guys. Bf2 is dying. It's sad, but it's the truth.

            They lie to you G.I.

Good find Javier, that makes a lot more sense.

When the servers crash they automatically restart Heavy. You don't have to do anything.

With this in mind, I'm starting to wonder the life expectency of EA games.

Actually I was wondering this myself, Javier (I play with you often on the EA WC servers). The only one that was populated yesterday was the DLOGIC one (which IMO shouldn't have EA US Official on its title since it's not an official EA server, but oh well). They also no longer have any SF, EF, or AF (did they ever have AF servers?) servers either. There are still quite a few vanilla ones, though, but they're not populated. Guess they need to be running 24/7 Karkand again before they'll fill up. :hmm:

And actually, the lack of admins, or I guess I should say the lack of stupid rules and power-hungry 12 year-old admins, is the very reason I do play on the EA servers. Sure, it sucks when you get the occasional hotel glitcher or intentional TK-yourself-er, but those are much rarer than the threads posted here and other forums about, 'OMG an admin just kicked me because I jumped twice in a row and the server has a no bunnyhopping rule!'.

Edit: Oh Dayum, I just checked and now there aren't any unpopulated ones, either! They're ALL gone, except for one 32 player EC server and one 64 player WC server, and I even tried checking different versions. All gone.

I hope they come back online after 1.4 is released (assuming it actually fixes things)..

I used to strictly play only the EA US Official servers.. if they don't come back, I dunno what I'll do.

Same here. I've never played on a server that wasn't an EA official server in BF2, except back in the demo (and even then only once) simply because it's a great environment to not have server rules popping up in the corner every 10 seconds and worrying about getting kicked if you clean house against a clan on their server or you happen to get to the jet before the admin gets there, etc. Just too much malarkey when all I want to do is hop in and get some game on. I made a post on the EA forums with a suggestion and a plea to get at least a handful of different EA official US servers back online, and hopefully if it gets enough people on it to show that people still want a server or two to play on they'll bring some back. Realistically, they only need a handful of servers, not necessarily the 30 the used to have back when the game was new and there weren't as many private servers, but they should still have some as there was always a couple that were full whenever I checked, so to have taken all of them offline was a little brash. Not that my thread will do anything, but at least it shows that some people still play on those servers so there is still demand for them. There were a few other threads on the EA forums asking the same thing about why all the servers were gone.

                        ~Wolfgang

Just like all the other games EA was behind.. once they start reducing servers, they end up taking em all away and removing support for it.

Yeah Wolfgang we come across each other quite often on these servers - always fun. As you, I have also mostly very good experiences on them so I hope that they are back soon.
