Re: new computer
no he doesn't need a 7800, those are still kind of expensive. Hell you could get a 6200 or 6800 even, but I would get a new Motherboard with SLi and get yourself 2 PCI-E cards. THen you'll be smokin, and yah, definately get yourself 2gb of ram, especically if you get a new board because it will support duel channel memory.

Re: new computer
I was playing just fine on a XP2400 512GB RAM and NVIDIA 5700OC
Right now I play on Sempron 3100+ 1GB RAM and NVIDIA 5700OC

Re: new computer
No, no, no, no, my friend.
My old computer was a pentium 4 (northwood) 2.4 ghz, with 1 gig of ram, and a 6800 (128mb).
Battlefield ran great @ 1280 x 1024 resolution. Along with Doom 3, Quake 4, Fear, etc.
6800's are good cards, and I am sure they are cheap now.
Oblivion I could not run, which is why I upgrade. :)

Re: new computer
My system is as follows:
AMD Athlon XP2800
ATI Radeon X700 PRO AGP
WD SATA hdd
1.5 gigs of Corsair XPS PC3200
Soundblaster Live
WinXP Pro SP2
I run BF2 on high with decent frame rates.
You don't need to spend 3k on a system to play this game.
