(I originally posted this in the 'Game Feedback' forum but I'm not sure it'll ever see the light of day there, so ... I thought I'd try it here instead.)
Obviously I'm not being serious with the title of the thread but reading through some of the threads in the ‘Game Feedback’ forum has left me concerned.
A number of people seem to confuse 'balancing issues' with simply wanting the game re-coded to accommodate their personal strengths and weaknesses.
When other players repeatedly outperform you in some way or another, that doesn't necessarily mean what they're doing is exploitative or needs to be addressed or toned down. In many cases, it simply means you have room for improvement.
Take the AT kit, for example. Certainly not my strongest kit ... but I'm not convinced it needs drastic improvement. Why not? Well, because I've seen people using it exclusively and absolutely dominating. I see them play and concede that I've got a lot to learn about playing the Anti-Tank role. My default reaction is not to ask for faster reload times for the DAO, stronger body armour or additional rockets for the kit.
Another recent example: the prone-delay and accuracy 'issue'. To me, this isn't an issue at all and shouldn't be touched. I don't have problems killing someone in CQC when they go prone or even prone jump. In fact, I find it easier. Whether they go prone or not, whether it's up-close-and-personal or a mid-to-long range shootout, the victor will be determined by factors that have hardly anything to do with the proning abilities of those involved. The change being discussed seems a futile alteration of gameplay dynamics that'll force the entire community to adapt (all over again) to something demanded for no logical reason.
I agree there are some balance issues that need to be addressed but I wish people would stop putting the shortcomings of their playing style, their abilities and/or their limited knowledge of the game down to "balance problems." Too often, an overly-loud minority seems to insist that some aspect of the gameplay mechanics is ridiculous and being exploited ... or they go further and insist it's certain to result in the game's demise.
I will concede that I've been glad to see some things removed / tweaked (C4-throwing, for example) but I also think a line has to be drawn somewhere.
Ultimately, no adjustment to something as irrelevant as the prone delay or prone accuracy is going to help you outperform the players that consistently take you down. In the same way those players adapted better than you to the current mechanics, they'll adapt better than you to any changes ... so why demand unnecessary, ineffective coding tweaks that will only serve to irritate the broader community?
