    Good advice. And it's "enforced".

The argument "It's their server so they can do what they like" is flat out wrong.

First off, it's not their server. It's their lisenced server. It doesn't belong to them, they don't rent is, they don't lease it. They lisence it. There's a big difference between those concepts. Under a lisenced agreement, all rights remain with the actual owner (EA) and the lisencee (in this case the NATO clan) is bound by the rules as laid out by the lisence (the ROE).

The ROE clearly stipulates that you cannot kick people out of ranked servers without just cause. This means they violated the lisence and can be spanked for it (they could lose their lisence, for example).

If they wanted to have a clan practice all they had to do is to password protect the server and it would become unranked. There would be no violation in this case since the ROE only applies to ranked servers.

Moreover, there is no reason not to have practices on a unranked and password protected server, unless they wanted to do *something* involving the ranking system. Ie, stats pad like crazy with noone around to catch them.

The case is very clear cut and there's not a single argument that can rationally be made.

    End of story.
they fact is a percentage of server owners do and have stat padded since day one with no repercussions from EA. At this point the ranks and awards mean nothing because of the lack of actual policing of stat padders, sure a few have been singled out but the majority have been left alone because of the vagueness and grey areas and loop holes left by EA. For example these guys could have done a couple perfectly legal thing like:
    1. booted to make room for an admin/clan member ( there is no regulation stating how long before that admin or clan member shows up you can kick to make room for them.)
    2. set up enough reserved slots to exclude any more than the number of clan members that would be there so no one else could even log into the server thus making it a LEGAL PRIVATE SERVER.

these are but a few things being done

We just indeed as said before by someone Password the server so only we can join in and have a practice/scrim/clanmatch . The game will be indeed unranked .

However the first days/weeks we got the server ( day one from it went live the game ) it stayed ranked we found out later . To overcome that period we hired a extra unranked server for practice .

You can also create several profiles you can load up :

For eg : create one for clanmatch ( maps/settings )
certain maps or liek citymaps only .

These are all ranked with exception of clanmatch/practcie profiles due being passworded .

I've had a conversation with them on their forums and on in person (TS - which is as close as "in person" you can get on the internet)

They were very curious about BFRoE as they did not have much knowledge of its existence.

It seems as if the problem is not with the sever admins, but with the server hosters not explaining what it means to be a ranked server.

I played on that server again, and took part in a TS conversation. They seemed like good folks willing to listen to my complaints. For this reason, I reckon (and i've never thought of this until now, that the errors lies in the communication, not in the enforcement).

Upon further conversation - they are willing to listen - as they want a good BF experience

perhaps it is not the servers, but the system. (not BFRoe - but the "trusted server" agreement to ensure that the server leasors are clear on the rules)

Agreed. The existence of servers (Pistol/Knife, High Points) that are ranked and operating in direction contravention to the ROE says that EA is vastly more interested in the revenue generated by server rentals, than in actually ensuring that the servers are offering EA's customers a level playing field, with consistent rules and even-handed enforcement.

When it comes to ranked servers, it really is "all about the money", and so long as the credit card comes back approved, EA doesn't seriously care what the server "owner" does with his private Idaho.

Thanks indian - i appreciate you helping out those responsible gamers that still have faith in the ranking system. Can you tell me how to report this myself to save you the trouble? I tried reporting on BFRoE but I accidentally typed in something wrong and it wouldn't let me enter the same server IP twice.

I wish I could be more specific, but I can't remember the field that I screwed up on. Maybe it was my email. Does it track IPs? I think I screwed up my email (my last name has 3 frekin vowels in a row)

Either way it said "you've already submitted this server"

    doh :)

I posted something on their forum, it follows:

    Hi guys.

May I start by saying I really did enjoy playing on your server. It's got a low ping and some good maps in rotation.

My complaint, however is with "team practice". If you password protect your server, the server automatically becomes unranked and anything goes. In short, my suggestion is to password protect your server in order to have team practice (which is very common among clans).

Why you may ask? Kicking non-clan members from a ranked server is against the BFRoE set forth by EA. It seems like most folks on the server had no idea what BFRoE was and misconstrued the difference between an official EA-leased server with an EA trusted ranked server. BFRoE applies to any ranked server and is signed by the hosting company that EA allows to lease ranked servers.

For more information about the BFRoE, please visit this site:

Now let me tell you why I'm doing this.

I try to be a responsible gamer. And if this happens to someone meaner than I, you may get reported. Reporting can also happen against players. For example, if someone has a favorite victim in the same clan and the kill-streak count on that person is over 30, EA has been known to wipe their stats.

Is that a threat? No. That's not my style. You guys run a good server but it seems like you're a little misinformed about what a ranked server means. As a ranked server, there are certain rules to abide by, as outlined in the bfroe. There's actually a lot of leway in the BFRoE. Your rule of not assaulting non-caps unless all flags taken is allowed. However, servers (as an example) that say "No commanders or you will get kicked" creates a non-standard in the ranked server world.

Now I'd like to keep this civil please. There's a lot of ego in the world, and I would like to avoid it in this thread. On that note, I would agree to take this case privately so that the whole world doesn't need to get bogged down on this. Again, I thought it was a great server.

In summary, Check www.bfroe.com and let me know if you think you've violated those rules.

It's not like I get all fuming mad when this happens, I'm just trying to be a responsible gamer. Evil persists because good men do nothing to stop it as they say.
Well if it makes you feel better then by all means report them. What's unusual is why would someone want to kick joiner after joiner, when they could just password it and be left to themselves?

    Unless......... foulplay is afoot.

I didnt know you could just switch between ranked and unranked. Well if it's that simple to do then they probably are padders since it would be far less hassle to put a password on it as opposed to kicking everyone that joins.

Unless it's an honest mistake and they didnt know you could switch it like that.
