    New ROE

    Things I like:

    - no 'whores' and 'jihad jeeps' mentioned in the official rules, it looks a bit more serious this way.

    - Friendly fire on mines (sv.friendlyFireWithMines) is back on. Too bad it's only requested and not required. I'm aware it will make a big mess in the first few days, but it's a good way to limit claymore spamming. I HOPE the 1.4 patch will change the way mines and claymores teamkills are taken care off.

    - the BFROE gestapo isn't mentioned anywhere, the complaints have to be directed at EA support. Their status was dodgy at best.

    Things I don't like:

    - the 3.2.1 section (game exploits for players and admins) isn't clear enough. For example: if the opposing commanders don't use artillery because the admin ordered them not to use it, because the two of them agreed not to use it, because they are waiting for each other to use it first or simply because they didn't have an occasion to use it and their 'exploiting' behaviour gets reported who will get the boot then - the commanders, server admin and/or all players on the server? Yes, it's a stupid example, but stuff like this should be clear because of the consequences it brings. What about "include but not limited to"? These actions should be prevented by game engine, not enforced by a comitee or a support person...

    Things that are wrong:

    - reporting exploits to evenbalance. They can take care of hacks and cheats but they have nothing to do with exploits.

    Jihad jeeps are covered.
2.3.2 Allowed “In-House” Ranked Server Rules:

Server Administrators may implement and enforce rules that result in minor changes to gameplay behaviour or styles as long as these are clearly stated before a player starts playing on a server. These rules typically introduce minor restrictions on how a certain aspect of the game can be used.

Examples of such rules that are acceptable are:

    (f) Using C4 explosives on fast-moving vehicles to destroy other vehicles (C4-ramming)

That's interesting did BFROE boys and IndianScout step on someones toes thay are not even mentioned.

"The following are the official Rules Of Engagement for Battlefield 2 and supercede any you may have read prior to this date. This announcement will be duplicated across all EA Battlefield outlets and as such are the only official outlets for rule updates and modifications. Any changes to the Rules Of Engagement will be made simultaneously across official channels. EAUK_Protagonist"

That is the line that catches my eye it makes it clear that what has been the status quo up until now no longer applies.

It's the wording that counts, the "official rules" don't look very official if you use words like vehicle whoring and jihad jeep in them.

As for jihad jeep, eee, C4-ramming - it's a "In-House" rule. Some servers could use it, others won't. The servers has to state the rule before the player starts to play, the punishment for breaking such rule can be a kick or a ban from server.

A big mess is correct. I rarely see claymore spamming but be prepared for a LOT of engineers to get 3 punishes due to teamkills and being kicked from server after server after server....

As it's a serverside setting the ROE can't do anything about the way it works now anyhow.

1.4.1 Custom maps are never permitted on ranked servers, although we do permit map sizes to be defined independently of maximum players.

So high points servers are legal now?

Wait are you saying that ranked servers MUST have TK settings when friendlies go over your mines?

Does that mean Claymores also TK now?

So if I strap c4 to a 'slow moving vehilce' its ok?

                    Re: New ROE

                    No.

Nothing is being changed concerning mines or claymores. Servers owners have the option to turn tk on or off but EA recommend that it be set to tk (i.e. FF off for mines). It's just the first time it's been written down in the ROE (as opposed to being mentioned in the patchnotes of 1.21)

This, in the real world, doesn't really mean anything as it's all up to the server owner.

i hardly see any difference, they should call it 'modified ROE', not 'new ROE'

I really don't understand this: does it mean this rules must be stated in the loading screen or is the typical statement "for server-rules check www.hardcore1337progamzorz.com/our_funny_rules.html" also enough?????

                          Re: New ROE

Harmor, I may get mixed u p in the patch versions but I'll try to remember correctly... :)

                          1. AT mines used to kill everyone.

                          2. Engineers complained 'cos while punishing doesn't take any points from you, it usually results in getting you kicked (default is 3 kicks)

                          3. DiCE added a server variable that allowed servers to to make mines either FF on or off.

                          4. The change also affected claymores, something which wasn't asked for and a LOT of people complained about.

                          5. DiCE's solution was to release the next patch with sv.friendlyFireWithMines set to ZERO by default and EA state that they prefered servers with sv.friendlyFireWithMines set to zero but left it up to the admins to decide.

All it really means is that when the 1.21 server patch came out, all the servers that had made the setting for mines to make them friendly had to go back and change it again as the patch's default setting wasn't what they wanted.

3.2.1 Players may not use or exploit game mechanisms to artificially boost their score ("stats padding") and Server administrators may not knowingly allow or encourage this activity on their servers.

This would include but not limited to:

                              (a) Using tag teams to take turns to kill and revive each other in turn (using knives, pistols, etc.)

                              (b) Playing on Knife and/or Pistol only Servers

                              (c) Playing on Knife only Servers

                              (d) Playing on “High Points” Servers

I guess they need to further "define" what they mean by high point servers...
