Server Option to include a Minimum Rank to join

Just want to know people's thoughts about having an option on servers where you can choose the minimum rank of people who can join it. I think it would be more challenging, fun and even fairer to the noobies if you could play against people of similar rank. Eg. 2nd LT and above etc...

Let me guess, you're a 2nd lt or higher? i think it would be quite cool, but lets lower the bar to... i dont know... say Sgt Major...

My first reaction was "yes, good idea"

But then I thought about how hard it would be for the noobs to rank up, or find a decent server if this was implemented......

Then I thought about how a lot of people I play against are higher ranking than me by a lot, and still are very noobish, so it probably wouldn't change game play much....

...then that led me to think about how some "noobs" aren't really noobs. If you know how to play one FPS' you know how to play another. Some people pick up this game rather quickly, and just learn how to play very quickly.

Then I thought of the nightmare, of what would happen, if I tried to join a server I had a low ping on, only to find I dont have a high enough rank..... not good, as I paid good money for this game, and want to play on servers close to me.

I dont get to play the game all the time, hence, my rank is low, but I am no way a bad player.

So, in conclusion, I say, that if the option were to be included, it would have to be only enabled on servers which arent ranked, which would sorta defeat the whole purpose. So yeah, theres my opinion.

My main thought behind this just as a server option, so there wouldn't be too many of these servers going around. Maybe just one or two that are really into that kind of thing and leave the other servers just as they are.

That way, the majority of ppl get the same olf BF2 servers they love, and for the better players that dont resort to smashing the noobies to get points might find a bit more of a challenge.

This could be a good option however remember that rank does not indicate skill level. There are many padders out there with high ranks and very little actual gaming skills. So you might not get the level of competition you expect-

Yeah this definitely makes sense. It'd be easy enough to write a Python script to do this but, like the guys have said, it wouldn't necessarily be an ideal solution.

Of course, you wouldn't necessarily be filtering by the best thing, it really depends on what you want to filter out. You could maybe have server "levels" that don't really mean anything except that it's the recommended player level you should be before joining a server. If you want a noob server you suggest level 1, if you want a hardcore server you set it to level 5. If course some high-ranked players would go hunting for noob server so maybe that's not ideal.

Good question and it's one i've thought of in the past but here's something to think about.

If you create say First sergeant or above servers or sergeant major and above servers then people might say "well if they can do that then whats wrong with high point servers, or infantry only servers or even K&P servers?" because it's still restricting gameplay to an extent.

Something to think about, im not saying i necassarily agree but it would definitely come up:)

well i guess it does have its ups and downs,
like i certainly dont enjoy a game where all i do is sit in the same spot and keep blasting noobs, i enjoy games where we HAVE to do something, a challenge would be nice, but the we would get less points, because somewhere out there theres some guy who's better than you are and another guy better than him etc, you know?

i mean, as the high rank, ppl have to set the example for the new guys. personally when i look at the scoreboard during a round and i see generals and colnels right up there, i say to myself "they deserve that"

True, there are high ranking players out there who just get their ranks through playing alot rather than playing well, and hell i know i've been owned by a few insanely good corporals/privates, but generally there must be a correlation between rankings and skill (ie the higher the ranking, generally, the better the player).

I cant count the amount of times i've joined a server and one side has got loads of luietenants and sgt majors, and the other only lower ranking players (and I'm not talking those servers where its clan vs public). The higher ranking players team ALWAYS wins.

What would be really handy would be system that would balance sides not solely on numbers, but also on their ranks/points. Now that would be useful.

I hate when that happens... even though I am a medium rank I still always seem to land on the newbie side to get slaughtered. One of the most annoying things to enter a server only to see the teams stacked unfairly. Now I just leave immediately-

....another point ive just thought of. I learnt to improve by getting my *** handed to me by better and more experienced players, and im sure ive done the same to less experienced players, thats how we improve and im sure we all can remember the first time we went on to BF2 and got thumped from the moment we logged until we learned to get better....quickly! If we had ranked servers then that would leave servers full of noobs, fighting against each other but not learning from the pro's.

I dont think that this is a good idea becasue the new "CoC" for servers says that ranked servers cannot have a password for the reason of "everyone should be able to play".

Theres alot of low ranking guys out there who kick a load of butt.

Skill > rank.
