Re: Dogfights
Bitvomit, what colony wanted to say was, theres always a chance. Small chance, big chance, fat and ugly chance, theres always a chance. In order to increase the chance you have to be experienced, intelligent and you have to know what youre facing and with what youre facing that threat. Majority of mistakes people make is that they fly each plane as if they were the same. Give an average pilot enough time in J10, and hell fly them all as J10, while smart players adjust their flying methods to the jet they are in. Sure, they score differently, but they also survive.
As for firing up the demo. I recently did, again, after a 9 months break, and its awesome. BUT, it also shows the main problems with pre 1.2 ATA. If you check your minimap youll see that pilots only attack uncappable. Vast majority of them. And most of them literally suck at dogfighting. And although this is the case now aswell, at least now pilots give a shot at dogfighting. They actually engage. In Demo, they dont. More often than not, you get ignored, even if they are in the MiG and youre in the F35B. So, 1.2 increased the initiative to dogfight, which is a good thing for groundpounders, because unless theres a top gun airbourne, they get more breaks from bombing. In Demo (pre 1.2), you didnt have that luxury. But theres no doubt that groundpounding in Demo is way more fun... Solid proof is that almost all of my X-fire BF2 contacts, me included have both games, BF2 and BF2 Demo.
And while I LOVE a longlasting dogfight, which takes skill and knowledge, patience and... skill, vast majority will ignore that dogfight for points and only a few (compared to the group) pilots actually concentrate on ATA. Im proud to say Im of them.
As for flares. Flares is like your second life. If you suck, they will delay the inevitable. If you know how to use them, youll get to live. Flares though, are simply a delay, a window of opportunity to stay alive in your evasive maneuvers. If you cant lose them after a short time when you deployed those flares, youre toast. Unless of course... yeah, you get one of those jets....Leave a comment:

Well they don't work "perfectly". It definitely depends on what plane you're flying. When I'm in a J-10 you can flare however you want and I will still take you out in 6 missiles even if I loose the lock on you towards the end. Am I just lucky most of the time? Sometimes I fire the missiles and disengage the target and still kill him. That always makes me chuckle at DICE. And most of the time when I have someone behind me and I'm in a J-10 I don't even have to flare just do some tight turns and missiles will miss.
You can't do the same in F-35. You get hit even if you flare at the right moment in probably 7 out of 10 times against J-10.Leave a comment:

Yeah I would prefer that the A2A missle code was reverted because I never learned how to use those missles and would have really like to do so, but you saying that flares dont work just kinda struck a nerve. Flares work fine, you just have to learn how to use them.
The flare when you hear lock was aimed at the OP.Leave a comment:

Who said I hit my flares when I hear the lock? I hit them the moment a missile is about to hit me and I still get hit. You acknowledge that there is no skill in getting lock, how about you acknowledge that DICE screwed up the Air to Air missile code and made it "skillless" and that it should be reverted to the way it was before. And also, what's up with you Sir guys always insulting someone? Sir must be filled with 12 year old brats.Originally posted by Sir. Blades******** about the flares. Flares work perfectly in any jet. Turn in the direction of the missles and flare outwards. You cant just flare when you hear lock.
Dont say that flares dont work, you have no clue what you are talking about.
There is no skill in getting lock, but evading lock takes a lot of skill.Leave a comment:

The root of the problem lay in the fact that DICE changed the Air to Air missile code which makes missiles nearly impossible to dodge and flares practically useles. If you load up the demo and get into some dogfights, you will see that it is actually quite easy to evade missiles. I made a thread about the problem here: http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78074

Wow just read the rest of your posts about flares. I have flared PERFECTLY against a J10 and have evaded 6 missles many times. The only time a missle hits me when I flare is completely my fault. Flares work fine.

As for the OP's problem, you have to flare properly and then try to get the point where your opponent will find hardest to get to and is farthest away from. Hard to explain, but after a while you get a pretty nice feel for it.Leave a comment:

Don't release countermeasures when a missile is fired at you, wait until it is close to hitting you, release the flares, and then break hard. It doesn't work all the time, but most of the time. If a plane spams six missiles, using this method, you should be able to avoid the first three.. Useless of course because the other three are likely to hit, but in non spam fire situations, it gives you a chance to escape.Originally posted by =IMO=THJonesthough I am not a pro i found the flares work best if i am watching from the rear view and dont use them untill he actually launches a missle first, then i launch and then try to evade...Leave a comment:

Yep, you can evade the first missile with your flares but the rest will always hit unless you're an uber l33t pro jet jock ebay fraudster. Hell, most of the times flares have no effect on A2A or AA missiles. Take my advice, load up the Oman demo and notice the difference in dogfights. It is quite dramatic.Originally posted by =IMO=THJonesthough I am not a pro i found the flares work best if i am watching from the rear view and dont use them untill he actually launches a missle first, then i launch and then try to evade...Leave a comment:

Re: Dogfights
If I am in an F-35, I immediatly pull up, to gain altitude. I only release flares if a missile as been fired. If I'm in a J-10, I'll usually stay low, and just turn left or right hoping to out manuever the enemy pilot and come up behind him.Leave a comment:
