crashing problems + LAN problems PLEASE HELP

ok the two computers i have on the LAN are:

2.4 Ghz P4
nVidia 6600 GT 256mb
1 Gig ram

3.0 Ghz dual core P4
nVidia fx5200 256mb
512 mb ram

Before the summer started, in about the middle of May. The game worked perfectly on both computers with no lag at all. the problem was on LAN. The game would start normally, but about 10 mins into playing, the client would just suddenly quit to the desktop. The problem is not with the network as it is very fast. all other games work fine on LAN except for bf2. after a few weeks of trying everyday, the client stopped connecting to the game at all. it would say connecting to server for about 5 secs then go back to the multiplayer menu. Another problem that recently started is that battlefield 2 would now quit to desktop in the middle of playing the game even in singleplayer. This problem only occurs with the first computer though. I have installed all the latest drivers for both computers. Both games are version 1.0. I cant download 1.3 because my DSL is down and i have no idea when it will be fixed. Please help im really annoyed with this, ive tried everything but nothing works. thnx in advance

Do you have two copies of the game? or do you use the same cd key on both machines?

No they have diffrent serial keys. I just did a few things to improve the performance on my system and i can now play a full game of singleplayer with no lag, but the LAN problem still exists

EVERY single time I try to play bf2 on lan I get 'there are problems with your connection' freeze then 'connection lost' its the 1.3 patch, goddam EA cash cow monkeys

How can i find the serial number i installed the game with and can i change it without reinstalling?

I have to ask something very basic just in case...

Are you using the local IP to connect to the LAN server?

I ask cause I have seen some that use their public IP to connect to local server(s), some with success, others without success.

no i use the local IP. all other games work fine on LAN its just this one thats giving me problems. Im not sure, but i think i might have accidentely used the same serial code on both PC's, ill try reinstalling as soon as i find the DVD's. Unless there is a way to change the serial without reinstalling...is there?

It might be PB that is causing the error on the LAN game. Disable the PB in the serversettings.con file and see if that helps.

I dont have PB installed. I re-installed and made sure the serials were diffrent and the second comp can join but the problem still remains the client comp crashing to the desktop after a few mins of playing. Could it be that the second comp isnt good enough?

EDIT - what can i do with the dmp file that is created when the game crashes? If anyone needs it to solve this problem I can upload it.
