Goty 2006

What do you guys think the game of the year for '06 will be? Its not fair to say before the games come out, but we can get decent ideas from videos and screens. My vote goes out to Half Life 2 Episode 2. I just watched the trailer for Portal(which ships with Ep.2), and its already one of my favorite games . And in Ep.2, Valve is claiming that you will be covering more ground then HL2 and Ep1 put together. Thats alot of traveling!! And itll ship with TF Forever, the sequel to Team Fortress which was one of the very first team based shooters ever, and TFF has very good cartoony graphics, all with the gift from heaven i like to call the Source Engine.
So, everyone else, if you want you can put your opinion on what the GOTY will be.

EDIT: I forgot about Crysis, that will be my Runner up, due to it seems that Crytek is spending to much time on graphics and physics to the point where they forgot about exciting and puzzling gameplay, but thats just my thoughts.

Well it's difficult to say, as some of the games I was most looking forward to have slipped, Quake Wars, UT2007 (more than likely will slip, and already has a release of fall as far as I know) and Armed Assault, so I really am a bit lost. Also I don't really follow developments of other genres, like RTS/stratagy games for example.

I am with you on the Valve games though! Wow, I just watched the Portal video, it looks like a load of fun! The possibilities with those portals are almost limitless, well, only limited by imagination. Team Fortress 2, looks very cool, will the gameplay be as cool? Will have to wait and see, but both those games, and Episode 1 + 2 are on my to-buy list when they're released! :)

It's not certain that Ep. 2 will be released by the end of '06, so that will certainly knock Ep.2 out of contention. Also, on a side note, Team Fortress 2 will be included with Ep.2. Fortress Forever is a TF mod that is created for HL2 and will be free to those who already own HL2 (when it's done). I AM certainly looking forward to these games, though.

I don't have a clear cut favorite at this time, as I feel it's been a down year so far and no new games have captured my interest. The only game I'm looking forward to that is certain to release this year is Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

Whoops. I was just looking at the Team Fortress forever mod site and got it mixed up with the Valve one. Speaking of Forever, wouldnt it be freakin sweet in Duke Nukem Forever came out by the end of the year? Its been so damn long....

After the news of TF2 coming out of the depths of vaporware, it would certainly be funny to hear another game do the same.

I don't think you can say Ep2 deserves GOTY because it comes with Portal... they are seperate games. You probably will be able to buy them seperate too.
