If you want to fly, go find a flight sim, there are loads of great ones out there. Any flight simmer would laugh at the air aspects of this game. It is here just as a feature to put it ahead of other FPS infantry-centric games. Personally, I play IL-2 Sturmovik (and all its upgrades). I do have a pretty good setup with CH Products joystick, throttle, and pedals not to mention a Track-IR Infra Red head tracker for my views. So flight simming is a big part of my gaming. For me, BF2 is great fun for its grunt work. AA was nerfed to allow the jet jockeys to get a lot of cheap kills by bombing flags. Still, there plenty of room to have fun as a grunt.

Battlefield series is about "do what you want, when you want to do it" that includs flying jets and choppers.

To say that he should play Jet sims, well I wouldn't have given him that advice

He was frustrated about the amount of smacktards and the way some ppl are. I have been in the same situation and I would rather be grunt on the ground. Truth is that its pretty boring to fly.

find a different server.
I usually leave the server immediately if such things happen.
I don't even get into arguments with such smackheads.
Just leave and find another good server. And make sure to take a note of good server so that you can go back.

And always remember, school holidays started a while ago, plus pizza hut gave away BF2 with their meal... So you can imagine what kinds of people you're going to meet on many public servers.

Try community servers, and clanservers of non-pro clans.

I've been "flying" sims for 20+ years, online for 8 years, have won as a team member, national competitions and world championships, and still like to strap myself in to Falcon: Allied Force, LOMAC or one of the other sims I've in my collection.
Even though BF2 is on a basic level laughably simple, flying still provides a challenge, especially if you're up against decent opposing players in the air and in ground/mobile anti air. If you play to help your team, rather than yourself, it's very rewarding, for instance blasting that tank who's camping a spawn, or like yesterday helping a very grateful copilot get a badge.
I'm also sure there are people who were introduced to flying planes in the BF series, discovered they liked the idea, and moved onto sims.

Look for saome good servers and stay there, its the best way to minimize the number of idiots you run into.

jets suck, dont use them, only stat padders use them for cheap easy points. stay away and you'll have no problems. if you get shot by a tker, remember, revenge is a *****.

this type of sh*t rarely happens on unranked servers, find a good server with a good community and stick to it.
