Question for those that have played via LAN

I know that if you play the game via a LAN (i.e. lan party) the ping
will be much better. But can anyone tell me if that will also allow you
to play with a "lesser" machine? I was thinking of going to a LAN to
play this and don't want to drag my huge pc. If I can, I'd like to take
my moderate pc (AMD 2500 Mobile Socket A, 1gb PC3200, 256mb 6200
video) because it's a really small form factor.

low ping does not affect video performance. jitters are different - but if you get a lot of people in one spot - it will still suffer.
