Cant even start BF2 after patching 2 1.3

I updated BF2 today from either 1.12 or 1.22, i cant remember, to 1.3 using the full 1.3 patcher. now for sum reason i cannot even start BF2, the screen flickers a few times, presumably because i removed the intro movie files, and then it either CTDs without an error message or completely freezes the computer and shows my desktop image with a big black square in the top left-hand corner.

is there a fix for this or do i have to reinstall the game?

Id re-install the game and re-apply the patches. Also dont remove the movies at the start cause that could be the problem. I've not seen a fix for any 1.3 problems.

When you re-install BF2.... delete all bf files after the uninstall including the BF folder in Program Files, and then install the game.

Removing the movies does nothing bad. It also lets you load in faster. To do this search in your Electronic Arts folder for ".bik" files. Change the names to ".bak".

Reinstall got the game sort of working for me but don't forget to remove bf2 files from your registry and my documents and when you reinstall use the full 1.3 patch and not the incremental
