    Jerky lapop performance...

Recently my laptop's performance has changed, here's the problem.

When I turn it on, the 'welcome to Microsoft windows XP' screen seems to hang forever (before it used to stay there for a few seconds now, up to 20/30 maybe). Loading takes a longer time. When windows loads, you get thast 'welcome' sound, it has 'jerky' moments, (almost like a scrached CD), or when your game lags. keeps freezing for less than a second.

Everything feels 'jerky' mouse, sound... when I click on Start, the menu loads longer.

I tried playing BF2, but it was not possible, connecting/loading of the map took forever! up to 15 minutes - where as before, it used to take me 2mins max.

Before holidays everything worked fine, when I got back it's all messed up.

any ideas of what the problem could be?

-I had no internet acces over the holidays.
-laptop battery died so the laptop was 'dead' for several days
-laptop has been through the security check (the thing where they see what's inside your back on the TV) about 4 times in total now - could that couse any damage?
-result is, laptop performance is 'jerky'

Even as I was writting this topic up, an listening to music on winamp, the mouse, sound, everything keeps having these jercky/laggy moments very often.

EDIT: just to make it more clear. If you've got a card reader on your laptop. When you insert it, it causes some jerky moments on your laptop to your sound and performances as a whole, just for 1 second while you put a card into your card reader. That is the EXACT jerky performanc I am having on my laptop at the moment.

sounds like either your windows files are corrupt, you have a virus, or your laptop is just gettin old and unusable...and those security checks, did your laptop go through any like x-ray type of thingies where they scan your baggage?

Yeh, on the way to and back from holidays, it went throught thos machines where they can see what's inside your bag.

some people have suggested it could be a faulty fan (broken), some said the HD could be damged...

Thing is, I did not have ANY problems as such before holidays, so something must've happened during the time I was away. But I only used my laptop 2 times. One time to charge my iPod, then the laptop attery died, since then it was off for more than a week... I then pluged it in and charged it up on Friday (day before flying back home) - I THINK (but not sure) I noticed something on Friday... but when I finally got back home, here we are... something's wrong with it

        "Intel® Pentium® M processor 1.70GHz (it's a double, 2.4GHz in total)"

not to be an ***, but how is that doubled? why are you doubling cpu mhz?

hehe "dual" core doesnt double your mhz, neither do 2 processors. (i wish though)

            sorry

anyways have you scanned for viruses, spyware that could be using up your memory?? do you have a lot of things loading. try also running a defrag and disk error check.

                      Re: Jerky lapop performance...

it couldn't be a virus, I've not had any problems 2 weeks ago, and over those two weeks I've not had internet access.

I do have quiet a few things laoding but it's never been a problem... - it does say that I need to defrag my C: thought, it won't help (I don't think) because this problem just happened suddenly, that just says something got broken me thinks...

One thing, I am not sure of... the Ventilation slot on my laptop - air used to come out of it... but now I don't think it is, the cooling fan works fine - but I might be wrong, ventilation slot used to blow more air out before, or I might just be wrong....

i would do the error-checking on the hard drive cause if you have bad sectors or whatever it can slow your pc down pretty bad

I hope the warranty hasn't run out hah that would be messed up.

yeah i thikn ur problem could be with heat. since ur using a laptop, they tend ot overheat alot since its all compact and most laptops have their ventilation on the bottom (bad bad) so laptops tend to over heat alot and i noticed from when i had an older comp that overheated alot, it would lag lot and fps would drop and more stuttering than usual
