Personally i thought quake went to **** after no.2, but people on here keep raving about this new incarnation. I think bf2142 is going to be way better, but feel free to disagree...

difference between bf2 a nd bf2142 is going to be a.. name
same engine, same bugs, same gameplay [no jets! jay!], same designers and what is most important - same customer care and service
quake wars at least has a potential to be better, and i'm all for trying it. it doesnt take much to do a more polished and balanced game than bf2. dice stopped going in good direction so short of target that it makes me sick.
bf2 is a great game, but iwth many small issues, that make me play other games [medic whoring [g36e], weak AA [short range and general lack of it], unbalanced maps [wake/dalian], j10 issue, engineer suckage etc] - i was realy enthusiastic about 1.4 but as i;ve tested it and saw oryginal IO mode f.. up so badly i gave up. QW - here i come -

Personally I had no interest in QW or 2142 up until 2 two days ago. Most of the people here keep banging on about Quake Wars, so I decided to research it have a quick look around the official website and a few forums websites etc.Originally posted by VC_Resurrected

I dont plan on getting QW, bf2 is an amazing game. I really dont see to much wrong with it cept for it crashing and the tv missles dont fire sometimes. I dont see as much medic whoring as I used to, the AA's are fine, engineer class is great(I love that american shotgun), the unbalanced maps are just part of the game and I dont like the IO mode either but just because its in the game dont mean you have to play it :)Originally posted by sidtheratComment

BF2 looked so nice b4 it was released, then when it came out it was completely different. So now u say BF2142 looks great, but its all a put on, to draw customers. Ppl who know how EA/DICE work, will most likely wait a few weeks after the game has been released before they split their bank. On the other hand i know that the Doom 3 engine is ghreat, ID, Activiosn & Splash Damage all offer great support of their products and plan to make their products as less buggy as possibly. Meaning more happy customers. unlike EA/DICE who rush their products, resulting in buggy material.Comment

I just want QW to hurry up and come out so everyone who is whoring up BF2 can go jump on the QW bandwagon and slowly tear that game apart. I am sure once QW is out that will happen - in the long run it will be better for BF2 when QW hits.Comment

Im not actualy bothered about ET:QW but more what features it will have to offer. Its game play style will be totaly different, objective orientated instead of a simple same old deathmatch or CTF as BF2 & 2142 will be.
But not only that what im most looking forward to is the modding community, ET:QW is looking to be the best game to mod on in 2007 and id have always lived up to there reputation of releasing a quality product and exielent mod support well past there games shelf lifetime.
BF2142 is going to be the same old BF2 with a few new models and stolen ideas, heck they have even reused statics from BF2 and i dont expect the they will be giving the mod community much support, and I wouldn't be surprised if they simply re-release the BF2 editor with a couple of features added but with the same instability and well crappyness of the current editor.
To sum up.
ET:QW- It will be stable.
- It will have a decent community.
- It will have excellent support from id and SD.
- It will have excellent mod tools and mod support from id and SD.
- It will also continue to have mod support from id & SD after its shelf life.
- Ranked servers cost no more than un-ranked servers (i.e you dont need to pay id for a ranked server)
- Better net code, I wouldn't be surprised if it was possible to play ET:QW on dial-up
- new features, something BF2142 doesn't have, innovation.
- Great graphics without having to have a high end computer.
- Its only downside that ive seen so far, id are not prepared to release the game until they are happy with it. which in the end is a good thing.
BF2142- Same BF2 engine = same bugs (expect the red tag bug because they never have and probably never will fix it)
- Same textures reused for there maps, reused statics.
- Same gamplay.
- Same HUD (simple a redesign but its exactly the same)
- Same high system requirement
- Same high server system requirements
- Same bad net code.
- Same ranking system (server owners having to pay extra for a ranked server)
- upsides... well I seriously cant think of one, its BF2 with a new skin if that's what you want.. I guess that's an upside, but then, why don't you just go play a mod for free if you want a futuristic BF2.

I think that QW's might be hurt just because of balance issues. DiCE seems to understand that there are certain tricks to making an open environment with vehicles. I am worrying though, that it might be old technology by the time it is released like BF2 was. Nothing cutting edge about it. Not sure how much use it is going to make with physics and DX10.
2142 might be great for Modding because all the things that DiCE wanted to get in, feature wise for the engine, will be available.
I certainaly am waiting for BF3. That might be four years of, but the technology available at that time will be amazing. Then again, it is not DiCE's style to push techonology and inovation. Everyone leaves that for iD or a smaller shops (like Crytek) to do.Comment
