Hello everyone! Based on player feedback and bug reporting we are moving forward with our second 1.4 Beta version. This version has additional bug fixes and the following changes to the “Road to Jalalabad” map and the “No Vehicles” server option.

Road to Jalalabad

- Tickets adjustements
- Removal of 1 US tank to help address balance issues.

No Vehicles Option

- Added a new Server Browser Filter option for No Vehicles
- Return Health to default BF2 level
- Return Medic pack and Revive values to Default BF2
- Default spawn times to Default BF2 setting.
- No Vehicles is now a ranked server option!

We kept:

- Keep the current sprint bar setting (I.e. 2x sprint)
- Keep the current Vehicle exclusion list (i.e. we are not introducing light jeeps etc, just keeping the boats on Carrier levels).


We will be working with the Battlefield server providers to have Phase 2 servers hosted. Client files will be hosted in the same locations as the first 1.4 Beta. Please note that once you download the new 1.4 Beta you must:

- Delete your previous 1.4 Beta folders
- Follow these steps to back up your 1.3 install

> Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
> Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Copy”
> Right click anywhere away from this folder and choose “Paste”
> Once the copy has completed, you will have two folders named “Battlefield 2” and “Copy of Battlefield 2”
> Install the patch 1.4 beta, then start the game as normal


When you wish to switch back to the release version of BF2, use the following steps:

- Go to “C:\Program Files\EA GAMES”
- Right click the “Battlefield 2” folder and choose “Rename”
- Rename the folder to something like “Battlefield 2 Beta”
- Right click the “Copy of Battlefield 2” folder
- Rename the folder the “Battlefield 2”
- Start the game as normal.

Please make sure to take the proper steps to safeguard your 1.3 BF2 install and join us in making this the best patch possible.

OK, having installed the damn 1.4 v1 patch, not liking it, but not wanting to re-install BF2, re-install Special Forces, re-install Euro Forces, re-install Armored Fury and patch them all, I am stuck with the 1.4 lagfest. That being said, the above quote seems rather important if it's what I think it is...

Everyone that has beta 1 installed needs to go in and delete their beta 1 folders before installing beta 2??? Is this right? Where the hell is it? Seems like a really important bit of information to only warrant one line of instructions. This beta should not have been available to every noob out there, because I consider myself pretty versed in things and I did not think to view the readme other than the changelog. And didnt think to backup...I saw patch out!!! Grab it now!!! and did so, and am now stuck with this.

This **** is really pissing me off. You guys are trying to destroy BF2 or what? Just roll the game back to the original version. It gets worse with every patch and this beta madness is just retarded...what needs to be fixed is obvious. You don't need 10,000 nuckleheads telling you what to fix. All I really want to do is play some Project Reality...BUT WE'RE WAITING ON YOU TO FINALIZE THE PATCH. Get to it. You guys are retarded.

Maybe they should reverse the way they fix things, with people having the inability to play and all you think they would make a list of most important changes and do those first. I mean it should go disconnects,lag,nerfing jets and so on and so forth.

maybe even add

a.) 1/3 rounds would be infantry only; maybe vehicle round, infantry , vehicle.

b.) have a limit or time limit on the amount of vehicles spawned; maybe just leave in vehicle drop by commander as last ditch option.

I don't like infantry only maps as they are slow paced and turn into a 'turkey shoot' by surrounding spawns. They also just stress out my fingers from having to walk around and I do not want to resort to using scripts.

Gonna go test it out more now; but I doubt my favorite servers would do infantry only or maybe just dedicate part of the time to infantry only like they do with mods on their server.

They need to enable in-voice game speak on the servers. Atleast on the west coast servers I have noticed; funny I was talking to nobody for awhile.

All i see are alot of complaints. I for one am hopefull that EA continues to envolve the community when implementing a new patch. Its obvious that they are listening to some of the things we are complaining about.

patched ****ed up the hole bf2, icons are all gone, games dont show up, takes longer for ever for the ea logo to pop on when i double click desktop icon and more crashing WTG!!!! now i cant play tonight =( have to uninstall everything tomorrow and dl all the patches again weehoo thanks dice!! and thank this beta filled game full of crap =)

Thanks to DICE/EA for listening to the community, I must say its a refreshing change!

I just got done playing 1.4b2 infantry only for about 2hrs and I must say I like it! This is how IO should be and in fact it felt like I was playing a scrim just with randoms. Love the 2X sprint it tends to make up for no light vehicles.

Normal BF2, none of this weaker weapon crap, no 30 sec spawn no nerfed medpacks, its all good from my experience.

Too many stupid 9/11 comments probably made them take it out, plus that recent dragnet by the pentagon experts calling Battlefield 2 a terrorist training video game.

I don’t think removing the plane will stop people from referencing it though; there are still parts of a plane on top (a wing) and part of the fuselage on the ground. Now it just looks more like the pentagon building, there’s a hole and no plane!? OMG conspiracy theory! It was a cruse missile!

So much for remaining politically correct and all that jazz.

I can't believe it would be about 9/11. It was a freakin' military jet. There is WRECKAGE of all sorts of other military vehicles around.

Yay..taking the vehicles out of BATTLEFIELD.

Yes, it sucks. I mean to cater for who, the clanners? By all means let us water down the BF2 experience to medic, sniper and support class so that a vocal minority can play BF2: Counter Strike. Instead of making a robust game where all maps are enjoyed with all vehicles.

To heck with engineer, anti tank and assault class. spec ops is a one trick pony you spawn as if you get close to the UAV trailer. But thats about the use youll get from that.
