I use a optical logitech with the default windows xp drivers so my dpi is probably 400, does mouse dpi really matter in the world of fps games? ppl say that they are more accurate with gaming mouses but is it really because of teh mouse?

well in my opinion it does help. I have a logitech mx810 (i think thats the model, not in front of my rig right now) and it has up to a dpi of 1600, but the cool thing is that is has 2 buttons to higher and lower the dpi while your playing in game, like say its by default 1600, one push of a button and it goes down to 1400, another push, and it goes down to 1200 etc etc. im usually an anti tank and it helps cause when im shooting rockets, i lower the dpi, less sensitive, gives me better accuracy, but when i get in a tank, i higher the dpi so the turret is more sensitive and moves faster, which is better for me. also helps when flying, im not a great pilot so i don't like my mouse too sensitive or trees and the ground/ocean start getting in my way
i used to play it using a different logitech mouse and i found it a great improvement using this one. also there are another 2 buttons (generally for forward and back while surfing online) but i use them for weapon up and down, while allows me to switch from AT rocket to submachine gun without using the keyboard, which is great for me cause i always hit the wrong button on my keyboard and out pops my knife as oppsed to my submachine gun, and i can switch back to AT easily too.
but its really up to the user, i find it helps me, im sure for others, it won't make a difference -

Same as above.
I play at 800 but have the ability through my MX518 to jump to 1600 when I'm in a tank (and man does the turret spin) or drop it when I'm a gunner in a helo and really want precision over speed. The extra buttons that allow me to either Pistol, knife or gas mask myself instantly are big helpers too.
