Does better graphics = better game play?

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card (currently a Radeon 9550) however this means upgrading my mobo to PCI-E and also my processor. So the question is - is it really worth it? I currently play BF2 with everything at medium, 90% draw distance in 800 * 600, I'm getting around 30 fps and to be fair I can't complain. Would a serious upgrade really enhance my experience?

You need a big upgrade mate you need to reveiw what hardweare you have and cpu etc. and update....

2gb ram
Nvidia 6800 256mb
AMD athlon 64 mid end chip.

those updates will do fine without costing like £400

It boosts preformance loads

and yes what your gonna get is worth it

my settings are low medium - i do alright, if i set graphics too high i get a low frame rate which does make me suck (more ). what realy makes a difference is the internet connection speed.
I would upgrade if i could afford too, but would only put the graphics up if it did not affect the frame rate at all.

Yes it most certainly does. I used to pplay at a net cafe then I bought the rig below and it's like night and day. A lot of cards are great for overclocking too and now I get at least 60 fps in a very busy scrap and quite often get 90 when not so busy.

Long story short, I see people that split second earlier and I shoot first.

yeah, I second that. It'll help your gamesplay enough to make it worthwhile. You won't have to spend half your time squinting at blobs on the screen trying to work out whether they're snipers or bushes :-)

Lol, thinking about it I get that a lot. Rest of my system is fine I've got 2Gb RAM 2 80Gb SATA hard drives, 7.1 sound. So it's slightly annoyning that to upgrade my graphics card which is the only thing holding my system back I need to upgrade my mobo and processor to.

I've played around 450 hrs on all LOW w/ around 15-20 fps. (rig was below minimum req) and I did ok. Recently I've been fortunate enough to be playing on a rig that allows everything on all HIGH w/ ~60 fps. Without a doubt(nor surprise), the new rig has done wonders for my accuracy, k/d ratio, and SPM. I no longer lose the 1v1 battles like I used to, I can hit targets at a much further range, and everything looks incredible.
Will it be "worth" it to upgrade? For me it was, but really only you can answer that question...

You can still pick up a relatively decent AGP card if you don't want to invest in a new mobo and cpu. For example, EVGA sells a 7800 GS superclocked that runs close to 500 Mhz. If I were in your shoes I would probably go with that and then upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram when AM2 and DDR2 gets rolling next year with new AMB cpus.

No doubt your game would benefit from a better vid card. Higher resolution + higher frame rate = better kill/death ratio and generally more fun and enjoyment.

Upgrade and you will no longer be shooting at a guy only to have him turn around and kill you - you will see and kill him first.

dude, i have a 68gt 256, but a **** processor, so my graphics are at the lowest, then i oced my card to compensate my processor, now i run every thing at high, its a hole new gaming right now, every thing is so stunning, i enjoy flying under beautiful sky, over pretty water, i enjoy walking in dusty city, not because of the game play, not because i could find somebody to kill, but because its so god dam beautiful, where im from, there are no beaches, so every round of of oman i play, i spend the last 10 tickets walking near the water in the hot white sand of Oman.

I run everything on medium when I am using FRAPS, and I get anywhere from 20-35 FPS while recording. Without recording, it hits 100 easy.. and I don't have it set higher, because, well.. you aren't going to be able to tell the difference between 60 fps... 100 fps... or 200 fps.

Over 60 I think, is VERY good, and is completely smooth.

I used to run AA 4x, but that was before 1.2 (which ****ed everything up and gave me performance drops... etc).

But now, I may just keep everything on medium, and run some AA. It looks SOOOOO much better with AA...

BTW, the difference between high and medium, well there is almost no difference. And the little difference there is, well... I don't know about you, but I would rather have the 30-40fps extra, than have everything set to high. It really looks no different.

Now low settings, that is a whole different story. The game looks like garbage on low imo. Especially without shadows.. everything is unnaturally bright and lit up.

Yeah , the low settings look like sh*t

Yet I still have low settings on my PC and get about 13~19 FPS

It's hard to say if "better graphics"="better gameplay"

But "lower ping" does = "better gameplay"

sigh~(got FPS of 13~19 ,and ping about 300~340)

I might turn down my settings to all medium save for distance things like Geometry and AA and AF (those last two don't really affect distance but I hate jaggies and smudgy textures).
