Re: ghosting my hd
well i use westerndigital as ive had enough bad drives from maxtor to sink a battle ship.
And aslong all that on your 200gb hard drive isnt bigger than 80gb then you should be fine. I found a site with some advise and tips http://www.directron.com/ghosting.html
Now im gonna raise the question before anyone else does, why would you want to downsize in drives?

LOL. For me, its the opposite. Stopped using WesternDigital after to many bad drives, both OEM and retail (owned a custom computer store).Originally posted by Sir. S.A.Swell i use westerndigital as ive had enough bad drives from maxtor to sink a battle ship.
I have been using Maxtor for 3 years now without any problems (oops....knock on wood).
Use the MaxBlast software to change over the hard drives.Originally posted by Sniper1432can someone tell me the steps og ghosting my hd? i have a 200 gig hd and want to downsize to a 80 gig maxtor hd is it possible to ghost a bigger hd on to a smaller one ? i dont have alot of stuff one mine right now just bf2,bf2sf,F.E.A.R. demo, project reality mod, and my internet provider, and also teamspeak, is maxtor good for gaming? thanks
Before installing the Maxtor, on the 200GB HD, remove any junk files (old patch files, demo games, etc), clear the temp files, and run the "disk cleaner" and remove old restore points ("More Options" select "System Restore" button).
Then restart in safemode and defrag the 200GB HD. Once that is done, install the 80GB drive and install the Maxblast software. Then let it image the old drive to the new drive.Comment

Re: ghosting my hd
does the 200gb hd drive you want to ghost have 200gb of data? ghosting can compress, but thats because its just making an image, so when you apply the ghost it will uncompress that ghost image so if you only have 50gb oh data on the 200gb drive then your ok but if you have 100 and want to put it on a 80 it wont work.Comment
