Where does this intermittant beep/solid beep thing come from? ATA and STA missiles have two stages - target acquisition and lock. You get intermittant beep when it's acquiring your target and solid beep when it's locked. Same thing on the Klaxon inside a vehicle, intermittant when it's acquiring you (so the person firing on you hears a beep) and solid when it's locked (the person firing on you hears tone). It has bugger all to do with whether the missile is inbound or not. I've actually tested this out by circling around a mobile AA battery on OCS and flared while all his missiles missed, and then I continued to hear the solid tone for the 5-10 seconds (however long) until his missiles reloaded and he fired again. Unless the Tunguska has its own set of rules on the matter, that's how it works. Maybe jets work differently, but I doubt it. Same thing with the laser guided missiles in the bombers - the ground vehicle will hear solid tone when he's locked on to, and intermittant while he's in the targeting reticle of the gunner but not yet locked.
I'd have to agree that the intermittent tone is when the target is being acquired, and the constant tone is when the target has been locked. It has nothing to do with when the missile has been fired.
