Only the default (TGN Light) theme for now. Dark them is also coming back soon. Then CSN. Then Wrestlin' Nation. A lot of WIP stuff right now. There are a couple of things still not working either. Sorry.
it could be a million things, maybe by adding extra core codes to the game (modifying it) *Vehicle Drop* something might have caused the game to need more packets (info) from players. now the server asks for too much dus CRASHING! I'm not 100% about why this happens but I am 100% sure that all games change your MTU and I will put $ on the fact that 75% of connection problems have to do with MTU size. It also could be from my reasons stated to my 1st reply to this thread. Instead of asking questions, dont you think it would be wizer to try it out? Do you really have anythin to lose, or would you like me to post pictures? "DRTCP021.exe" is the exact name of the Dr. TCP program I was talking about. seriously try this out, if it dosent work well kick me in the crotch for trying. But as of now; i have successfully been able to help a ****load of people. once again
I just checked mine it is 1200
so how do you explain all my connection issues?
u might have a good idea
and even if u r right
DICE and EA are still lazy bumbs for the crap code
after all - why didn't they find this problem??
again = thanks to you debab
Well, you still can have it too high; my friends MTU had to be lowered to 700!!!!! It all depends what part of t he country you are in and what part of the country the server you are playing is in. It's stupid complicated but again EA should have addressed this issue big time! It also depends on what router you use / ISP you have, etc. I know for wireless connections it has to be dumb low (dont have an exact # because routers / vary) but I do know for a fact that
wireless = lower
normal modem connection = lower than 1500 but not lower than 1k.
and like I said on my previous post it can also be because you havent manually update punkbuster, or deleted your "My Documents/ Battlefield 2/ Logo Cache" files. Maybe you have inserted some random variable thinking you might get a performance boost thats conflicting with the game code, i mean it can be alot of things. What i suggest if you have done what I said and still get a connection error is; re-install bf2(FULL 1.3 PATCH), Check MTU, update PB, delete all cache files and hopefully this problem will go away. And also remember different servers = different MTU size's so if you have your's set low some might require something higher or even lower.
anyways, this will hopefully help more people as I am still experimenting. Laters.
allright, granted lag is usually the players fault, but im talking about CRASHES, which are due to 1.3, lag is a player deal (and rarely server) as it has always been and is in most game
I would have to disagree with that..
I don't know about you, but ALOT of people including me, and some people I play with, SINCE 1.3, get random ping spikes, and it gets VERY annoying. I know I have a good enough connection (6 down ~500k up), and it is cause of that shitty fucking patch. It's not even the servers.. cause the servers I used to get 10-40 ping (like TOC for example), I now get 40-110.. PLUS, I get random but frequent spikes up to 300..
It is NOT my ISP, OR my computer. I use two different computers with two different ISP's, and the same shit happens. Even people I know that live in different states... same shit.
It's that 1.3 "patch"..
Not to mention, ever since 1.2, ALL PERFORMANCE has gone downhill!!!!!!
Hell, probably even earlier, I just didn't notice!
Imagine getting connection problems your clanmates don't get. Oh yeah that's what I go through everytime I play BF2. Ever since 1.22 I've been getting this crap.
And to think they are making BF 2124.... haha; sad thing is that 95% of people in this forum will also buy it. And much like bf2 it's going to be sh!t full of bugs :)
I was playing BF2 a while ago, pretty much when 1.3 first came out. And while i was playing one of the guys from my clan was joining. The second he got in everyone got connection problems, and the server crashed. So we went to a new server, and the same thing happened, he joined, server crashed. We went through this about 4 times before we decided he was crashing the servers. So yeah, it most definatly can be a client issue.
I only get it when the round is about to end, but the server doesn't crash and I still get my points. I only crash on joining the server. Still, it's ridiculous. It amazes me that EA and DICE made such a good game, but it seems it was higher than their crappy Harry Potter game standards, so they had to ruin it with all these new problems and junk. It's really starting to tick me off.
You aren't crashing the server, the problem is that you and you'r friend are on a 3rd party application such as teamspeak / and or ventrilo! so when you both join the same exact server, the server give's you guys a connection problem since both of you'r MTU's are together because you are in ventrilo and Punk Buster detect's a 3rd party application to see if it's a hack or not.

GOOD LUCK

That packet idea is probably the problem. I've noticed that my ping has risen a lot since upgrading to 1.3. On some servers, everybody seems to have a ping of over 100, even if there doesn't seem to be much lag.
Depap:
Crashing servers w/ MTU set to ONE BILLION BYTEs!!!!!1! is impossible for 2 reasons:
1) path mtu discovery wont allow too big MTU + other devices, first being your modem router etc. ,will fragment the overly lage packets anyway.
2) it's teh IP layer on udp and tcp layer on tcp that does the fragmentation / reasembly of packets accoring to mtu. Not the game. So basically you *could* crash the OS (if buggy ip stack) with incorrect MTU, not just the game.
Your other reasonings seem as suspect.
edit: I'll take the last comment back.
Actually loss of UDP fragments causing resend / bad error handling might be the "CONNECTTION PROBLEM". As Dice doen't seem to have _that_ good programmers..
