PC will shutdown in 1 minute? virus?

Hi, I wasn't sure where to put this because as far as i can tell this is some sort of virus but it only affects BF2.

I started getting the following message a couple of days ago after BF2 crashes to desktop normally after a map change!

The message reads:

"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM

Time before shutdown: 00:00:XX

Message
The system process
'C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code - 1073741819. The system will now shut down and restart."

This will happen every time on BF2 every time i play it. From what i have found out on the net it attends to affect windows as a whole where this message comes 10-15 minutes after boot up, however it only happens for me in BF2!

i have various different suggestions on what virus or worm it may be including the Blaster virus and sasser worm.

I have currently used the following programs to solve the problem

HiHackthis
Adaware
spybot
AVG anti virus
Avast anti virus
Stinger
Fix Blast (from symantec)
Fix sasser (from symantec)

Also i have re-installed BF2 however none of which has worked so if any body can help me i would be extremely thankful because i don't want to have to format my hard drive

ya, this sure sounds abit like the blaster worm. definitely some virus at work. nothing to do with bf2 though. wonder y its here.... lol

As i said it only affects BF2! it only occurs when i play BF2 otherwise it does not occur at all. So how/why is it affecting only in BF2 and how do i cure it?

I used to have that issue but updating my OS through Microsofts update page fixed it.

Sasser.f. i think it is. beacuse that is what the sasser say.

I have a simular but not the same situation with my computer. P4 2Gig 512 Mb Rambus, nvidia 5900 Ultra Vid card w/256 meg ram.

What mine does, and it isn't just BF2, it's any game. Is that it will back out to the dresktop. The game is still running ok, in most cases. All I have to do is pause a second or two and then click on the game to pop back into it. A little discuncerting if your the pilot in a two seter though. Tnds to piss off the gunner.

I was wondering if it might be my vid card finally going on the blink. But I run virus checkers most all the time except when playing the game. And I'm always updating my windows as neccissary. All patches of all games have been applied. This has been previlent in BF2, BF Viet Nam, FreeLancer, Splinter Cell (SP), And Medal of Honor. So it isn't specific to just any game. Other programs like Photoshop, Agent newsreader, or such seem not to be effected by it. Which leads me back to wondering about my vid card.

Could be only happening when your playing the game as you might have:

• Disabled the firewall prior to running the game, thus allowing pings from blaster infected PC's to get through and re-infect your PC
• Don't have either service packs installed for windows

i have windows fully updated, used a sasser and blaster removal tool from symantec as well as windows malicious software tool BUT it is still causing th same problem in BF2!! any other ideas?

I know it doesn't sound very similar to the O/S privliges problem with punk, but attempting that fix, shouldn't cause any more trouble and may point out something. Pasting from PB FAQ

Download and run this file from any location, it will check for adware that stops you from being able to play on PB servers. The VX2 adware edits your user rights when it infects your computer, and many programs do not repair this when they remove it.

Click the "Find VX2.betterinternet info" button to make sure that you don't have this adware. If there are no files listed, go on to the last step. If you find the adware files, (it is usually 3 random named dll files) Select all the files found.

Press 'Delete These Files'. The program will delete all files but one that will be deleted on reboot. Allow program to reboot. Once Restarted:

Press 'Guardian.reg'.
Press 'User Agent'.
Press 'Restore Policy'.
Clicking on "find vx2.BetterInternet info" again should show all fields blank.
If you have no adware files, just click on the "Restore Policy" Button

you know there nerver is an easy way deal witha virus though the easiest way out is to reformat

I had that happen on my windows 2000 pc, and it totally hosed it up. I could not log into any users after. It's like the profiles were deleted. I had to totally reinstall the OS.

Thanks for all the help but it sounds like a format for me then becuse i have tried all the suggestions so far and none have worked
