hi does a crappy hard drive affect gameplay? i have a custom case but with a piece of s%#t emachines hd its not my video card beecause i have a ince one also everytime my hard drive makes a noise the game freezes for a few seconds and then goes back to normal what should ido? is it my hd?
amd athlon 64 3400+2.2ghz
1.5gigs ram
ati radeon x1600 pro 512mb pcie

have you tried running a defrag on your HD?

hd can affect performance in some ways, if you have some old 5400rpm hd its gonna take a damn long time to load maps and stuff.

Your HD does matter when it comes to loading times for maps. I played BF2 on my main SATA150 hard drive but decided to install a second copy of Windows on my old IDE hard drive for gaming only with no background apps and services sucking up resources. BF2 load time for a map is noticably longer now on the IDE drive.

To test if it is your hard drive that is the problem, I suggest turning down all of your settings in-game, if you still get the stuttering you probably should get a new hard drive.
