    Did you know...?

Wow...I was talking to a guy in the totalquake forums, and mentioned the havoc on 64 player servers. Then he told me, sadly, that Quake Wars only has a maximum player cap of 32 on its maps, in fact, most are 24 person only. That really turned me off, I was oringinally split between the two games, but now I'm sure that I'm going to get BF2142, I really don't care about how bad the netcode is, or how many times I get CTD's, I wanna play in 64 player maps! Can anyone else relate?

weren't there promises of games a few years ago for 128 players? I forgot what games were mentioned.

You're going to believe some random guy without confirming what he said. Awesome logic.

I can't imagine what kind of computers you would need to run that server.

Nope, I just confirmed it, read the articles on totalquake, in one of them, the producer talks about 24-32 man servers as their max...bummer ain't it?:p

hmm, i remember reading somewhere online that you can bypass the 32player limit and have 64 players. could be wrong though...ok mostly wrong.

Yeah, I read it in an article too. I'm really disappointed about that as I'm really looking forward to QW but only 32 player servers would be a bit of a shame. Well, maybe not depending on the maps, etc, maybe it'll be fine but I really like having tons of players on servers.

I spoke to a Quake Wars developer personally at E3 and was told the same thing. In fact, he didn't even mention 32. I was told that nearly all of the maps are 24 player only.

He said the reason was because every player in the game will get a specific objective to accomplish. It won't be like BF2 where you spawn in and go where you want with only 2 overall goals (kill and cap flags).

He told me that Quake Wars will make all of the players feel involved by giving each player individual objectives that they must accomplish. For that reason, he said, the player count was meant to stay low so that the game didn't become a deathmatch.

I also played the game itself (early beta) and let me tell ya, it's deathmatch whether they want it to be or not :P Most players don't care about objectives and just want to kill, kill, kill and go up against other players. If we wanted objectives, we'd playe Single Player.

Spetznaz..I would worship you as a god and put that into my sig...but it doesn't fit. You see, I am a BF fan, and hoped that QW wouldn't succeed. Now that you've added that litle tidbit at the end...I'm a happy man. The lack of people actually following the objectives? Awesome! So bascially you guys are buying into a 50$ 24 player, deathmatch so...still like QW that much? WOOT the BF community stays together! NO one will break us!

Erm... no. Funnily enough, if I pay money for a product, I do care about how well/badly it works.

But I can understand why you'd want more than 24 or 32 players. That seems like a step backwards to me.

Hehe. I'm flattered, but don't get too defensive about QW. There are alot of reasons why the title will probably succeed. It's a completely different game.

It's like having Rome: Total War and Battlefield 2 on the same shelf... both great games, both with strengths and weaknesses of their own.

BF2142 and QW aren't competing for 2 reasons:

                          - QW and BF2142 are based on completely different time periods and stories (IMHO, QW has a much better story, with a long history and art behind it - 2142 has the better time period).

                          - BF2142 is coming around late November-ish/early December-ish in time for Christmas. QW has just been delayed to a "when it's done" date (which basically means far into 2007)
