    High Settings

I know this belongs in the tech section...but fast answers are always present here.

Ok, with this system, will I be able to play BF2 on some high settings at 1024X1280 at 80+ refresh rate? (Under 80 hurts ur eyes...I mean it rips the eyes inside of your eyes out)

    Three Bigs Ones:

CPU: AMD Athlon 3200+ 2.2 MHz...will OC it.
GPU: ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512 MB, running at 550/800
RAM: 1 Gigabyte Corsair DDR RAM.

I know its not even close to a high-end PC, but I also know that the 6800 gt can run on all high. This system should do well I think. If the chance comes, I'm planning to upgrade to the new Intel Conroe Dual-Core CPU. In one year, Iplan to upgrade my GPU to a DX 10 compatable GPU. If I'm lucky, I will upgrade my ram to two gigs, but I don't really need it. Thanks, if you must move this thread, I understand, and I'm sorry.

lol, i think you'll get flamed soon, the question is kinda dumb, but yes, you can play on high with this config...

how come no one ever asks about resolution? they look at the card, the cpu, the ram... but never ask about resolution. RESOLUTION MATTERS SO MUCH WHEN YOU'RE ASKING ABOUT WHAT SETTINGS TO RUN!

How is it dumb? I seriously want to know whether or not I can play on high with this rig. I admit, I did know beforehand that this rig has more than enough power to play on high, but I wanted other's opinions because of BF2's crappy optimization.

          I run an Athlon 64 3500+
1.5Gigs of Corsair ValueSelect ram and a Radeon X1600XT

and I cant run everything on high.. My settings which seem to work fine are the following...
          1280x1024 res
Terrain,Effects,Geometry, Texture and Texture filtering are on high. Lighting is on Medium, Dynamic Shadows are off Dynamic light is on Low AA is on 2X and 100% view distance.. These settings seem to treat me fine in normal bf2 but on warlord on SF it just kills me X_X

            Re: High Settings

I see a lot of folks using dynamic shadows off, even with high-end rigs. Does keeping them on impact performance THAT much? Or do they just not improve the look of the game very much?

              Re: High Settings

I could run all high, but it takes a hit with some of the settings.

              With:

              Sempron 64 2.4Ghz
              6800GS PCIe 490/1200
              1024MB DDR400

              I play at 1024x768

              high geometry, terrain, effects
medium textures (high with 2GB), medium lighting and shadows
              High AF
              4x AA

Your system can play it well, but not on all high I'm afraid. What res do you play at btw? 1280 or 1024? couldnt really tell in your post

I think you're going to want more RAM to play with settings on high. I would go with 2 GB if you can.

You can play with 1 GB, I know I did for a while, but the loading/verifying times were ridiculous and there was intermitent stutter during gameplay (presumably because the game ran out of RAM and began using the page file).

I have a 3700+ which runs at 2.2 Ghz. I have no problem with my CPU handling the game although it is right around 100% usage at all times during gameplay so it is probably the weakest link in my chain.

Just as something to compare to, I run all settings on high @ 1280x1024 and my specs are in my sig. I typically have around 50fps in a heavy firefight and 80-95 when there is not much going on around me (according to fraps anyway).

It always takes up 100% cpu, no matter what cpu you have. Dual core might show 50% because its running on only one...

Alll that Conroe and DX10 early adopters is bs, wait a while, with this u can still game properly until end of 2008.

Nope says 100% too, strange enough, really BS

Your CPU should always be loaded at 100% when playing a videogame, you want to use it all dont you?

Same as your GPU, you want it giving you 100% all the time

I think people play with dynamic shadows off so they can see other players. I think it's BS, there should be a penalty for playing with lower settings, not an advantage. It's just seem ridiculous for those of us who prefer a good game appearance/pseudo-realism have to contend with the fact that when we think we're hiding in shadows, we aren't unless the other player has them enabled.

bottlenecks. When I play Oblivion, my CPU bounces around 80-90%. BF2 rails it.

                            Re: High Settings

Dynamic Shadows: This setting controls the shadows cast by moving objects. These 'dynamic' shadows can be switched Off, or set to Low, Medium or High. Each higher level of dynamic shadows means slightly more detailed shadows are cast, particularly for the shadows cast by players and vehicles. However this setting has a dramatic impact on performance, particularly when there are multiple sources of light. Setting this to High or even Medium will result in a great deal of lag/jerkiness during gameplay, and in particular during heavy combat scenes. I strongly recommend Medium or Low for most people, although setting this to Off removes all shadows and thus noticeably reduces realism.

Taken from BF2 tweak guide I may just put mine down to medium and I have a 7800gt 3700 2gb

So you want to punish those who dont have a high end computer even more? Thats pretty assholish right there.
