Not enough memory?

Hey guys. After recently trying to get back into BF2 and install patch 1.3, I discovered I don't even have enough hard drive space to patch (the patch requires around 2 GB free space). Is there anything short of removing programs that I can do to acquire the space? Will defragging the hard drive possibly save me a couple gigs?

how much crap can u have on your computer....most computer come with a 80 gig hd there is got to be something that u can delete.

mabye...just type "Format C" in run and i promose it will clean up a lot of HD space.

if its space you are looking for , i would recomend to delete the steam file (HL2's, CSS, ect..) if you have it, because my steam file eats 15 gigs of my HDD, and if you dont have it just delete the program you dont need by going to "My computer">click "Add of Remove Programs" on the left side of the window. and delete the useless sh1t .

Haha... no, I don't think the porn's the problemo. The thing is, and I know it's sad, but I've only got around a 37 GB hard drive, and we're getting down to the wire. Steam's gone... didn't do much. I guess I've deleted all the programs that I don't need. There's no other way to clear up space? And will typing "format C" ruin my computer or something? (I'm a total noob with the computers)

lol DUDE dont format if you format you will erase COMPLETLY everything out of your HDD even windows :p , lol the guy that told you that was only teasing. How much free space you have now?

Hmm, well now I've got 4.31GB... however... BF2 vanilla takes up around 2, plus the patch is about half a gig, and it also needs around 2 full GB to patch, so... I don't have enough :cry: Will slowly patching with the incrementals and not the full patch eliminate my need for a full 2GB?

Hmmmm i think you patch the game first and then try to install Vanilla cause i think the patch its more important than Vanilla (its a MOD right?). and OH OH OH, delete the temp files and crap files to do this go to START > All Programs > Accesories > System Tools > Disk clean up :)

This is madness... I finally managed to free up 2.5 Gigs, yet the patch still says "We're sorry, but in order to patch BF2 you need at least 2090 MB" What the hell? Is anyone having this problem?

You could try TEMPORARILY turning off the pagefile. That would free up (depending on your) configuration 1-2 gb of space.

Also, if video/audio files are taking up alot of space, put them on TWO DVD-RW's (one to use, one as a backup), and then delete them from the HD.

Delete any installers that you have that you dont need

yeah if u have a lot of ram u can turn off pagefiling and it wont affect u in any way (it could even make ur comp run faster) but if u have like 512MB or greater of ram...ur system will run fine w/o pagefiling and w/o playing any games for the temp time..
