Hi guys if you have onboard sound for best _performance_ ingame should it be set as hardware or software ? I'm a noob at stuff like this, cheers. :)

Definitely software. You can try running it on high, but I get the feeling the performance hit may be a bit, probably best on medium. Also depending on which onboard solution you have, I don't think I would bother with EAX either as it will have to be done in software as well. -

I recommend upgrading to a sound card like a cheap Audigy. Onboard sound really kills the BF2 experience and performance.Comment

i use onboard sound on my nforce 3 250 mobo i keep it on software and have sound on high,
this doesnt slow me down (maybe it would on a older rig)
the l96a1 sounds even better that it did on my old set up.
onboard sound aint a bad thing.
but a good sound card would be better of course.
but if that all you have got (like me) then software ,sound high ,eax off its not to bad u get great sounds (way beeter than low/medium)
dont see any performance drop either.Comment
