Video Card Replaced - Will it run the same?

My video card just died the other day, and I am replacing it. Not upgrading it. I plan on buying a 7900GTX once I save up for it, but right now I just need to replaced the one I had...

    I had a 6800GT PCI Express, 256mb.

This card ran BF2 on high, very little lag, it was a good card.

So anyway, I purchased an ATI X1600 Pro 512mb

What I want to know, is if anyone has this card, and what I can run BF2 at with it?

Dont say "I hate ATI, Nvidia is better", what I need to know is if that card will run BF2 on high or not, that is it.

    Thanks alot.

It will run it similiar...Will probably run BF2 on high at 800x600 res depending on the other specs of your computer...

The amount of RAM will determine how high you will be able to set your textures..

Ill get you a hardware comparison in a sec..

    Okay here it is

    6800GT:
    Core clock 350MHz
    PixelPipelines 16
    Memory Clock 1000MHz
    Memory Size 256MB
    Memory Interface 256-bit
    Memory Type GDDR3

    X1600PRO:
    Core clock 500MHz
    PixelPipelines 12
    Memory Clock 780MHz
    Memory Size 512MB
    Memory Interface 128-bit
    Memory Type GDDR2

The main differences are that the ATi card has a larger memory size, but a slower memory type and smaller interface

It might run it a bit slower sad to say...

I'd say itd run Medium, the 6800GT was a high end card, and X1600 is a mid range card, and theyre only a generation a part.

The x1600 is an inferior card by far, you will have to run a mix of medium and possibly low settings.

          Unfortunately, I'd agree with ^.

For quick and cheap, I'd suggest either another 6800 series, or (preferably, to me) an x850xt. There was a refurb one on Newegg for $119 a couple of days ago. Latest price (new x850xt) is $165-$30 Mail-in rebate = $135. It will def run BF2 on geomtries/view distance/lighting/texture filtering to high, medium the rest, and turn off dynamic shadows, dynamic light to low, at a decent res (1280x1024 or slightly higher) with great FPS. So, you're compromising a little compared to a 7900/x1900 BUT you're also not paying ~$300-$400.

But yeah--don't be suckered by the bigger marketing numbers. Adding 800 "ATI points" to an x800 to give you an x1600 does not give you twice the power of an x800. As far as ATI goes, a top-of-the-line last gen card (x800/850) trashes medium range cards in the same price range. Now, the technology in the x1600 is a little more advanced. It will do SM3, while the x8XX series won't, but if you actually tried to run HDR with it, you would get a slideshow because the guts of the card aren't capable of processing HDR + normal rendering fast enough to make things look playable.

I do agree with that, play medium to low and get the better card later, I was eyeballing that 7950 GX2, but dont know....

I had a X1600PRO 256mb IceQ, and it ran on high at 40fps in single player.

Re: Video Card Replaced - Will it run the same?

Well, I picked it up today, put it in, and is running BF2 on high just fine. So that's the final results, I ended up being able to play BF2 on high, with little lag. That is with 1gb of ram, an AMD Athlon 64 3200, ect ect.

When recording with fraps, my FPS doesnt even drop. Usually when recording, your fps drops down very low, but when I pressed F9, it's like I never pushed it, and it feels as if Fraps is not even running. So thanks for the advice guys, but all turned out well. I plan on upgrading to a 7900GTX, once I have saved up for it. Thanks again.

1024 x 768? Are you running a CRT? Cause that res aint pretty on an LCD....

The X1600 can easily handle BF2 all on high as long as you got 2gigs of RAM and a good CPU, aswell as maybe a fast HDD.
