About VOIP

Hi, I'm building a PC for a mate and buying some games with the bundle and all and he want's battlefield 2 with it! The system will run it so thats not a problem!

His only concern is his poor experience with VOIP systems with older games in the past. Can anyone tell me what the VOIP system is like? i.e.
-does it lag?
-does it turn out distorted on the other end? (assuming the mics are decent)
-Do many people actually use it? (not effectively, just not to embarased to use it)

Voip hasn't lagged me.

I can hear people fine so I assume no distortion.

Many use it, many more don't. I feel that it makes a squad much more effective (and fun) when they can communicate with VOIP. A good squad can dominate a game. Also, many public servers run some form of other communication software for regulars like Ventrillo or Team Speak. You may want to preinstall them as well. The client models of both are free I believe.

I turned off VOIP after a squad leader crabbed at me as a commander. He used foul language and was being abusive. Since there really isn't a way to silence a SL as commander, I just turned off VOIP. Now I can enjoy the game without listening to idiot players.

I use voice all the time. It heps a TON when playing in a squad.

the voip in bf2 is great a good squad always uses voip there are wite alot of good players using voip out there i find it much more injoyable using voip and it does not lag it is clear but some people are to quiet all in all it is great

Sure you can. Either click the MIC icon on the commander screen or hold tab -> right click on manage and click their MIC icon next to their name. You should be able to see which SL is talking to you either in the commander screen or in 'squad view.' Hope that helps you out.

It's clear and it doesn't lag. It makes BF2 much, much, much better. Although not as many people use it as they should.

I experience a bit of lag when I try using TeamSpeak in the background during BF2 (voices come through about a second too late). TS and Vent are both free for both client and server versions.

My voip doesnt work... upon many reinstalls I just cant get it to turn on. In my BF2 folder the enablevoip setting is set to 1, and its enabled on my options audio screen, but it still doesnt work for me. I cant talk to players and i cant hear players tht are trying to talk to me.

So i just use TeamSpeak :)

when u press the talk button, there will be a little green icon on the right showing you are talking. and when your teammates are talking there will be a small yellow icon with the speaker's name on the left.
