Re-installling BF2 & Saved key bindings

Hi,

I'm re-installing BF2 on the same machine. Ive made many changes to the default keyboard settings. Will these be lost when I do the new install? Is there perhaps a config file containg the changes that I can save off?

If it hasn't been deleted, go to "My Documents\Battlefield 2" and make a copy/backup of the Profiles folder. Then after you re-install, just copy and paste it back.

yeah that worked for me anyway, if anyone knows how horrible it is to set up keyboard settings in bf2, its me..... put on a pot of coffee

possibly the WORST bug ever i have found with this game is the keyboard control settings, i use left shift as my duck button, but you think bf2 would let me do that, well version 1.0 does, but nothing above it does like 1.3. it keeps telling me that left shift is already used in common controls (when it isn't) and the exact opposite goes for the "x" key in the original version 1.0, where it will give you the same error is you try re-assign it to something but will let you assign it in 1.3!?! so what i had to do is setup half my controls in 1.0 before patching, and then after patching, i have to go and setup the rest. after patching to 1.3, my common controls show "duck" as unassigned, but clever people at DICE still let me duck in game when i press left shift regardless of it not showing in the controls....and it's as simple as that for me ;-)

You just need the controls.con file from the profile that you use for keyboard settings. I would also copy the generals.con file so that you do not have to listen to all of the in game voice help again.

If you look into the profiles directory you will see the .con files. They are really self descriptive:

controls.con = keyboard/joystick/mouse control settings
video.con = video settings
audio.con = sound settings
general.con = help sounds/last played/favorites/misc settings
profile.con = profile info
demobookmarks.con = battlerecorder files
maplist.con = for local server map cycle
serversettings.con = for local server config

If you were to delete your battlefield 2 directory in your My Documents and then start the game, a new folder would be created automatically.

When you pulled your profile info down from the gamespy servers, it would create the profile.con file for you again. Well, it would recreate all of the files for you.

If you then quit the game and went into the new battlefield 2 folder for your profile and copied the old controls.con, audio.con, general.con, and video.con file to this new directory, when you then restarted battlefield2, you would have all of your old settings back.

My profile with a fresh install is in the 0002 folder and 0001 is the "defaultplayer" profile. You can find out what player each folder is for by opening the profile.con file in each directory.

Just use wordpad to open these files.
