shut down problem?

hi i recently installed a new video card and it works really well i play mostly everythingon high with no lag but for some stupid reason i cant shut down from windows anymore it keeps freezing at windows is shutting down so i have to unplug it from the wall is this my video card thats doing it or the drivers? also am i hurting my computer by just unplugging it? again it started after i installed my new video card!!!!!

amd athlon 64 3400+2.2 ghz
1.5gigs ram
ati radeon x1600 pro 512 mb pcie
200 gig hd

somebody said the drivers dont match my system says i have to wait a couple of weeks to get the new drivers? what also can happen by just switching it off when it freezes?

I heard somewhere that the armature on your hard drive can hit the disk if the power is instantly cut off. More likely though you will just cause file corruption. I assume you have tried shutting down with ctrl-alt-delete and your computers manual power button first.

I think the best idea would be to re-install your drivers, although I don't know enough about ati drivers to tell you to wait for new ones.

ok i had this problem too. What you do is go to Control Panel> Display> Apperance> Effects> and uncheck "Use the following transition effect".
If that dosnt work go to the System icon under control panel then click the advanced tab and performance>settings and uncheck the top 4.

the arm in your hard disk may still be spinning when the power is suddenly cut, which could hit the diskor simply corrupt the are where the head jus stopped at. the head normally returns to a 'safe' spot during proper shutdown.
