  • Fps + 6800gs?

Just wondering what settings people are running with 6800GS's? (PCI-e)

I can't even run the game with shadows and lighting on without getting a constant 20~30FPS, which to me in unplayable.

    Heres some screenshots:

    Running at these settings:

    Specs:
    3200 Venice @ 3800+ Speeds
    1.5GB DDR400 Kingston
    200GB IDE Seagate
    256MB Gigabyte 6800GS.
    MSI K8N Neo 4F
    ThermalTake 430W, 18A on the 12V.

Am I expecting to much out of my pc?

According to these reviews my card should be fine at those settings.

Battlefield 2 ran great at 1280x960 with 2XAA and High AF. We tried 4XAA at 1280x960 as well as 1600x1200 at 2XAA, but performance was too slow. We did find that 1600x1200 with no AA was playable in most situations. However, with no AA in this game, it can look very aliased. Therefore, we chose 1280x960 with 2XAA.

The system used for this test was as follows:

    * Asus A7N8X motherboard
    * AMD Athlon XP 2500+ at stock clocks and voltages
    * 512 MB of Kingston Value RAM, DDR 400 3-3-3-8 operating @ DDR 333
    * Maxtor 40GB 7200 rpm drive
    * Western Digital 160GB 7200 rpm drive
    * Video Cards: Asus Nvidia FX 5700 256 MB vs PNY Nvidia 6800 GS AGP

    Playable settings:
    Resolution: 1280x960
    Terrain: High
    Effects: High
    Geometry: Medium
    Texture: High
    Lighting: Medium
    Dynamic Shadows: High
    Dynamic Light: High
    AA: Off
    Texture Filtering: High
    View Distance: 100%
Is it just EA/DICE's crappy coding and patches? I have tried all different drivers and formatting etc.

      Re: Fps + 6800gs?

      I have the following:

      Asus A8N-E
      Athlon 64 3200+
      GeForce 6800GS OC 256MB
      2GB PC3200

I play on 1600x1200 with all in-game settings maxed out, and I get a consistent 40-50fps. I normally play on 32 player servers, but even on 64 player servers, there is no noticeable slowdown.

I play on 1680 x 1050, all settings high, 4x aa, 100% view distance and get around 50-60 fps. Mine is agp.

How come you are able to run it at such high reso's and graphics settings where I struggle with 1024x768?! Ive got no viruses/spyware etc etc, so it's nothing like that!

Could you also list your system specs?

There was a stick in here http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4 about how to do it, mucking with localization files or something but it's not there anymore :hmm:

Wrong question, you're actually expecting too much from the game.

The truth is that all the PC Reviews and settings suggestions are mostly based on 16 player maps.

The thing is that the main attraction of BF2 and SF are the 64 player maps/servers and there it's twice the requirements these days / since 1.12.

Look at my sig, there are my specs.

I'm playing with everything on medium except effects, geometry, terrain, texture filtering and view distance which are at high/100% plus 4xx AA - no AF.

This was actually fine even with my old Geforce 6800 Ultra for 30-50 fps Vsync on.

Since 1.12 I lost 15 fps and even wit my better card the game doesn't go faster. Now I'm jerking around with 15-35 fps.

                Conclusion:

                1. Pc Reviews are based on 16 player maps.

                2. The game lost even more optimization with 1.12 and hasn't recovered since then.

Well, I feel cheated too. :hmm:

                  Re: Fps + 6800gs?

I have a 6800gs pcie and I run all max settings (medium textures though because i only have 1gb ram) with 4xaa and 4xaf and I never go below 40fps @ 1280x1024.

                  Opteron 148 @ 2.9Ghz
                  2x512mb Samsung DDR400 @ 1T 2-3-3-6 204Mhz
                  6800GS @ 485/1285
                  DFI NF4 Ultra-D modded to SLI-D
                  X-FI Xtreme Music
                  2x300GB WD Caviar Sata

                  I would suggest:

                  1. Uninstall BF2 and make sure all the directories are gone (also in my documents). Install the game from the CD, then download the 1.3 patch FULL install from the internet, NOT the downloader, and install that.
                  2. Uninstall your video drivers from your control panel, reboot. Download DriverCleaner Pro and use that to clean your nvidia drivers. Reboot again.
                  3. Download the latest offifical drivers from the nvidia site and install them. Reboot and then try to play bf2 again.

                    Wow ok here goes:

                    AMD 64 3500+ (overclocked)
                    MS-7185 K8N (Nvidia nForce 4 SLI Board)
72 Gig WD Raptor (10k RPM) | Seagate Ext 160 Gig HD
                    2 Gigs Consair Memory
Dragon Case (CPU Temp stays around 32 deg F or 0 deg Celcius)
                    Nvidia GeForce 6800 GS (overclocked)
                    Bose Speakers
Dual LCD (Screen Size 2560x1024) But I use only one screen to play BF2
                    Windows XP Pro (SP2)

More but thats enough for now....
All my settings are on High in BF2!

                      Re: Fps + 6800gs?

                      I've got a:

                      Pentium IV 2.8Ghz
                      768MB RAM
R9550@R9600~pro (core a bit higher, mem a bit lower)

                      I'm playing on:

                      1024x768
medium settings, except for lightning on low and dynamic shadows off (though sometimes I play with all medium)
                      no AA/AF

My fps is all over the place, getting loading lag on some maps, sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's stuttering and generally unsmooth.

I'm thinking of buying a GF6800GS. Would I be able to play comfortably in medium settings@1024, no AA/AF? Would I be able to set something on high? I can deal with loading lag as long as it's only a few seconds.

Try joining a Karkand server and report what FPS you get when theres arty/nades going off everywhere.

I have tried that numerous times along with formatting, same problem. Maybe it will run better if I turn the settings up? :S
