Laggy BF2

Okay, I bought BF2 around about 2 months ago, and didn't stop playing it. About a week ago, my PC was due a format as it was so full of crap it was stupid. So I formatted it, installed all the drivers (i think), downloaded service pack 2 etc etc. Then I installed BF2. When I'm on a map, I seem to get bursts of lag that lasts for about 5 seconds every 30 seconds or so. Then after about half an hour of playing, I get disconnected (I know about the EA/DICE problem with this). But the thing that gets me is the laggy-ness, it was fine before i formatted my pc when it was full of spyware, but when its all nice and clean it lags? =S Any ideas?

Making sure you have installed all the most current and proper motherboard drivers as well as all other drivers may help.

Running through the BF2 Tweak tutorials couldn't hurt either.
