    F-35 - Not VTO?

    FYI: VTO = vertical take-off.

So I'm sittin at home waiting for the dern server guys to finish their work so I can wrap up my network duties and I'm watchin the history channel.

They're doin a piece of how crappy the harrier is and they briefly talk about the F-35 JSF. They said "Although it does not have the capability of vertical take-off, it does have an impressive short take-off capability".

Pretty interesting eh? The F-35 can't take off verically IRL.

The F35B irl is actually STOVL - Short Take Off/Vertical Landing.

I have seen MULTIPLE videos of it taking off vertically, and then it shows it landing vertically too... so as far as I know, it is VTOL.

um.. F-35B does have VTOL: Here

The F-35A (USAF variant) and F-35C (Navy variant) might not have it..

As far as you know it's VTOL, but it isn't.. :) The F35B may be capable of VTOL under controlled test conditions, but in reality that's not how it will be used.

                  3 Variants:
F35A CTOL (USAF) - Conventional take off.
F35B STOVL (USMC & Royal Navy)
F35C CV - USN carrier variant with bigger wings and strengthened undercarriage for steam catapult take offs and arrested landings.

                    Re: F-35 - Not VTO?

There is both a vertical takeoff and a short take off version.
Darn I didn't read the above post.

oh you confused me. The JSF X-35 could take-off verically but was not needed in production.

They still call the X-35 F-35
