    Don't.

Overclocking has very specific and precise requirements and if done wrong can flame your system permanently. Not all cards can be overclocked and your card is already very nice. Running the game via medium settings and 100 distance should be speedy for you already.

Heh, amateur^, youve gotta be pretty thick to break anything, just be carefull (dont touch voltage and watch your temps) and read up about it first, try the guru3d forums, explaining it all in one post would take me far too long.

And fraps is the best way to check your fps

Go to your console and type
          renderer.drawfps 1

          and it will show you.

It will increase the temperature of your card, and it can just overload and burn out (I think, havent experience the burning out but temperature increase definately)

Is a few more FPS worth losing a card over?

You mean a benchmark? The most well known and up to date one is 3dmark06

                  Get it at http://www.futuremark.com/download/3dmark06

All overclocking is, is getting the most out of the chip you are using, if you have better than average cooling, an OC'ed card can easily be just as cool and stable as a stock one.

                  BTW I run my 6800gs (OC'ed) on all settings high, 1650 x 1050, 4x aa, 100% view distance etc
And I can tell you for certain, I can't run it at those settings on stock speeds.

Dude, OCing is like a drug.

You have a good card for overclocking too..

check out ocforums.com for some more info.

right now download rivia tuner and check out a couple things.
