Are you trying to play it on high settings? My specs are similar to yours, I use only low to medium settings to play Multiplayer. High settings are nice, but unless you absolutely want to see water reflections, I'd drop the settings down and get the performance boost.

I don't have all my settings on high either, even though my system would "allow" me to.
I vote for good FPS over eye-candy.

I've seen exactly the sort of lag described, and it was due to lots of internet congestion. Two thoughts: first, play a minute or two as single player. If that plays smoothly, then the massive lag isn't due to hard drive/heat/etc issues, although those are never a bad thing to troubleshoot & fix. Second, look at (and sort by) the ping numbers you get when you're looking at servers. If they're all pretty high (i.e. a few servers with "0" ping, and the rest all above 100, maybe above 300 & up, then there's something about your internet connection that is certainly making game play unpleasant.

Hard to suggest a troubleshooting plan without knowing at least a little about your internet setup, but if somebody else is downloading a large file on the same connection you use, that could certainly cause problems. Or, your ISP may have something going on that's limiting performance. Perhaps someone is "sharing" your wireless connection without your knowledge.

In any event, I'd definitely consider that your internet connection may be the cause of what you're describing. At a recent LAN party, three of us were playing BF2 fairly smoothly until somebody else started downloading a large patch, and then we got the 2 seconds/frame routine, and the game quickly became unplayable.

I used to have the same problem and now i do again..

My fix 2 gig of ram i see u have one gig.. I used to get freeze frames sound lag , lag spikes and the dreaded gudders soons i got close to the battle..
All on UK servers so im pinging below 30

I fixed it by buying another gig of ram.. Ive had to send it back at the mo so im back down to 1 gig.. And again it splutters all over the place..

Im running on medium with lighting shadows etc on low 2x AA medium textures..

My pc is more than capable of running those settings to.

ATi 850 Xt Pe
1 gig of corsair XMS cas2
Sound blaser Live 5.1 digital
*Yet with juts one gig of ram its splutters and **** like crazy*


with 2 gig i was able to max out teh game with no frame drop that i noticed anyway...Also it enabled me to beable to play on 64 player servers..

Also defrag run adaware AV tool and turn off any background programs whilst gaming if u dont already..

Bf2 really needs 1.5 gig or more if u ask me.. to run without stutters and lag spikes

It's funny how the back of my BF2 game case says 512MB minimum, I think the min is 1GB.

I just defragged but I don't have time to check BF2 right now, but will in about 5 hours when I come back.

It is 3% and under.

My system performance is fine, I can run F.E.A.R. on most high no problems in game, same with my other games, except Oblivion lags like a *****.

In game settings of BF2 are all medium, textures high, and view distance 100% with res set at 1280 x 1024. I've always had it set as med/high.

Internet connection is fine, always have a nice ping in BF2, never have lag from connection. Im running 4MB Broadband, cable.

Its nothing to do with the ISP, I highly doubt it, why? Because all my other games work fine online, no lag. Also im not downloading and I don't have P2P. It's every patch EA release it seems more demanding after each one, SF is terrible rofl, thats why I never play it.

Thats a 2 gig must. Theres so many textures in the game u need it al loaded into the ram so theres no HD access time...

Id defo drop that down to medium..

Drop the top 3 settings to medium honestly theres no great differnce from high..that u can see yet its a performance Hit..

2x AA
Shadows light and dynamic lighting all give major performace hits.. i suggest no higher than medium for any of these.

That should give u a nice looking game with nice FPS.
If u can afford another gig of ram thou try it i swear to god it makes all the differnce with this game..

perhaps all that stuttering is brcause of a slow pc. i believe your pc is a year old? whats the specs? could be insufficient ram or jus a slow gfx crad. could be a hot pc also, u checked out how warm your pc gets when its running bf2 after an hour?

My PC is a year old, Id buy another when DX10 hits.

Yes I can afford to upgrade the RAM no problem, but whats the point if I was to buy a new comp soon and that new RAM would just be a waste since I'd have to buy a new set.

I'll lower Textures to medium, and try the settings you suggest.
