Ribbons and awards and such... (I take only what I earn)

The ribbons/awards I've earned actually reflect how I play the game. I don't "go for ribbons" and such. Am I alone in this? I like it a lot better that I earn a ribbon or whatever when I actually do something as a part of playing that happens to fit whatever criteria.

It makes my "character" stats that much more meaningful to me- it reflects how I actually play.

I only go for ribbons that are a challenge, I want to show people that I can get them. Other than that I get ones that will give me a higher rank, e.g. Master Sergeant-First Sergeant.

btw i do think the Medals and stuff are fu cked up most off them require hours off Playtime. I would like it when they throw the Playtime part away and instead let them put a skilled part in...

Wow such an issue. never been flamed so quickly over what I thought was a non-issue. Does a style of play that doesn't concern itself with artificial rewards and such threaten the "manhood" on this board?

Wow... gay to play as a team member and try to win? Or just have fun with a computer game without becoming obsessed with wanting to collect as many medals as a great latin american general? LOL. Yeah... OK.

I play as much as I can on UNranked servers, because I think that the whole "reward" system brings out the worst in people - not the best. It encourages selfish point-optmizing gameplay and brings about:
- TK's to get vehicles
- Players not caring about team objectives, only themselves
- Infantile bashing with points and awards
- The illusion that you are a good player because you have awards, when the truth is that everyone with time on their hands can get them.
- Clique-like behavior where people only play with select others and where newbies are shunned and not included
- Less self-sacrifice for the cause/objectives
- Less defensive gamepla (because it is frequently way less "rewarding" when it comes to points - since it depends on the other teams' initiative.
- Less "fun" - people taking themselves and points too serious

I know I'm going against the grain here, but I sincerely feel that accumulated stats and ranks (that you incidently and incomprehensibly can't lose again even if you behave like a twit) is a serious detriment to the quality and level of gameplay.

When I get bored I try and "go for awards" other than that I just have fun.

I feel the same way as you Dearmad I just take what is given me I don't go look up on bf2s about how to earn badges the time for me to earn a badge/medal/ribbon will come when it comes.
