SF laggs like crazy for a lot of players.

How come a lot of people get lagg when they play SF? They lose connection and even have problems with team speak when playing SF sometimes.

I personally dont have that problem. But some of my members and friends have that problem. Why is that? They tryed lowering graphics but that doesnt help. Maybe their has been a fix for this? Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Dunno. I have the opposite problem. SF works great for me, but vanilla BF2 locks like a biatch. I can't wait for the new patch to hopfully fix this....

Ya seems like people are really really laggy in SF but are fine in BF2. I bet ya this is the reason a lot of people quit playing SF. Way to kill the game EA. Congrats once again.

I lag to hell, one of the reasons I never play SF. I don't know why but its not my ping. On BF2 Vanilla I lag yeah but only for the first 5 minutes of when I enter a server. But on SF no matter which map I pretty much lag the whole round.

            BF2 (1.0-1.03) before 1.12 -> fine
BF2 with and after 1.12 -> performance loss

SF laggy right from the start.

Played a round of night flight 64 players last night.
As soon as there were about 20-30 players on one flag the games wasn't playable anymore. Extreme slowdowsn and so much lag that you couldn't use the sprint function. It was like sprint - stop - sprint - stop etc.

My favourite in SF is flying a helicopter with 1-2 second lags.

The game is a huge mess and so far no one from DICE Canada has laid hands on that problem.

My solution would be - overlook the netcode, delete the Iron Gator map and bring back a acceptable gameplay without all the framedrops and extreme video lag.

But I highly doubt it that DICE will work on that issues.
Just look at the main BF2 game. No Sir, that will never happen.

Always amazes me that people with much better systems have lag in BF2:SF where I almost NEVER have lag except maybe the first minute or so, even on Warlord and Iron Gator. It must be some sort of system/game voodoo of some sort because if everyone lagged like that, nobody would be playing SF.

Re: SF laggs like crazy for a lot of players.

                1. Everybody has a different feeling about when a game becomes laggy.

                2. There are so many different PC setups out there. If you want to asure a good solid game you just have to test as a developer -> Quality Assurance
My guess is that the game was never really tested on 64 player ranked servers. One reason why DICE Sweden has decided to put out a beta for 2142. And hopefully they will stick to the game and don't pass it on to DICE Canada like with BF2. That would be the worst thing which could happen.

                3. Also there are not many SF players left when you compare it to BF2 vanilla players.

I really like some of the SF maps but the performance of that game can get you upset in no time.

i used to have lag problems in s.f. i just upgraded my video card to a 7800 nvidia ,i played s.f. last saturday and had no problems,i also noticed alot of detail that i never did before with my settings on med. man did i miss alot.
the mosque in mashtuur has so many colors i would have never guessed that they put that much detail into it.

Playing with the 3D map on will slow me down on Gator and in the Palace on Warlord if there is a firefight between the flags on second and third. Once I cut the 3D though, I'm good. I've thought it was due to the layered type of maps. Gator having multiple levels and the same with Palace (although less than Gator) and it's specifically those two that give me and others that I listen to online issue.

Your 100% correct! lag, disconnections, clipping, name bug, lag without high ping, crashes to desktop, lagging in certain areas only like the aircraft carrier , the warlord palace...... your 100% correct its not that the game isnt fun. but add all these issues to a longer load time to even start the round ( and yes i speak for those of us with over 1 gig ram ) why bother with the crap.

It's been pretty widely discussed that SF is terribly optimised, hence much more lag than vanilla. Although personally I don't lag on either.

I still can't believe that they specified the same minimum specs for SF

I like iron gator. My computer specs are P4-2.4C CPU, 2GB DualChannel DDR (4x512MB), ATIx800XL 256 AGP, SB Audigy2ZSGamer, which is close to your setup and that map plays fine for me. Whenever I do get a lot of lag, it is usually cause of my connection or the server is getting ready to crash (since 1.3).

I see more lag in Surge and Mass when flying (on ground is fine) than I do on Iron Gator flying or in the ship.

At one time I lagged a lot on Iron Gator but I bought a new PS and IG started playing smoother. I moved from a 350W Antec True-Blue to a 550W Antec TruePower2.0 and all of the maps started playing better.

                            Make sure:

Your MB BIOS and MB OS specific drivers (nic, chipset, USB, PIDE/SATA) are up-to-date.

You have plenty of cooling, all fans are working, and dust it out.

Your PS is large enough and a name-brand.

If you bought a 500W PS for $29.95 brand new, then go get a better one for around $90. If your PS came with your case and combined they cost less than $100 retail, then update your PS. The cheaper retail PS's have noisey sine-waves and cause all sorts of problems to your system. Dirty power = lots of bad results.
