xbox 360 controller help

i bought an xbox 360 controller to fly aircraft with (i really like it)
but i can't get the triggers to program to shoot. i have only tried mapping them in the controlls section under options since i don't know how to edit the .con files. how can i get the triggers to work?

The triggers won't work because they aren't buttons, they act on an axis. Eg. when you zoom in in Perfect Dark 0, the more you pull the trigger the more the gun zooms. I just set the right and left buttons, rather than triggers, as fire and alt fire.
