Considering hosting an unranked BF2 Server

Heh all,
I am fairly new to BF2. Prior to playing BF2 I was a Counter-Strike fanatic. I hosted servers then as well. Now that the counterstrike days are done for me I am now wanting to host a public unranked bf2 server through a data center. I understand that EA has restricted hosting ranked BF2 servers so that individuals like myself are basically screwed. Here is the question. If I am going to host a battlefield 2 server I want it setup so that all weapons are available for everyone who connects to the server. Basically I want to do away with the weapon unlocks period. If this is possible how can it be done and are there any issues EA has with hosting such a server? Thanks.

P.S. I am asking this question because I am not going to dump $1500 to $2000 into a server if I cannot host the server as described above.

If you are going to be running unranked, you should run a MOD. Good servers running Mods are few and far between.

Just something you may want to look into.

But so answer your question yes, I believe you just set the global unlocks option to 1. It should be one of the server settings.

Currently (with the 1.3 patch) there's no way to unlock all for everyone. It was disabled in last patch, but will be officially re-enabled in next as a server option.

If you want to run an un-ranked server, possibly a mod, it's more than a must to have something special like server-side mod to remove all vehicles on your server. For example: Project Reality. Has somewhat a hundred servers, but only few are full every night. And those few have modified maps with most armor and vehicles removed.

Like the guys said you'll need something to attract people to your server. There are currently around 7000 servers running, 4000 ranked and 3000 non-ranked.

Of the 4000 ranked servers, 3300 are empty. Of the 3000 unranked, 2900 are empty. Lots of people are running unranked servers but few people want to play on them unless they're running a mod.

There are a few german servers that are unranked that have unlocks on them its called rulez please if someone has any info on how they did it please tell!!!!!!

thanks for all the info. Ill be waiting until the next version of the dedicated server comes out :) Oh btw which is better windows dedicated server or the linux dedicated server?
