Ahem, Belgian army, and sadly they already adopted it, Can't believe they replaced the awesome FAL and FNCs with those. Anyways, SCAR series is for special operations only, i have no idea what we are gonna do for marines and army. Anyways, Rldenes, how is it supposed to get a betterGL, all factions have pretty much the same GL (the two AKs have slightly lower reload time).

Oooops, sorry, SCAR for SpeOps, XM8 system for regular units, probably. SCARs have been put into combat trial already. But XM8s seem to be quite far away at this stage.

I have never put a finger on any of them. But I doubt if the F2000 and SCARs suffer from their short barrels, which can result in low muzzle velocity. They look more like carbines to me.

btw. Chinese Type 88 is such an awful weapon, that even PLA hasn't fully geared with it. It's almost rare to see them. Type 85, a copy of SVD is much more popular. The 5.8mm is just too light to use for sniping. Type 95 AR, full size model of QBZ-97, is super cool weapon though. It's a pity that EA gave PLA assault class AK47s, which are only used by militia now.

The XM8 program is frozen, like the Commanche program, in otherwords, it's not advancing, but they havn't scrapped the idea. Anyways, the SCAR-H is a carbine in real life i believe, the SCAR-H is simplay a 7.62x51mm version of the SCAR-L. THey also have CQC varient for both teh -L and the -H, and a sniper varient i believe.

Sorry, lol. I meant grenade launchers in general should be improved. Maybe not as good as they were, but better than they are now.

You mean like make the splash damage like what it was pre-1.2, but have the same range?

Splash damage is fine as it is IMO, the only thing I hate it that fire delay. I'd like that removed.

XM8s Got frozen already. Not too surprising to me. I actually don't see any conceptive break though on them, especially when compared with M16A4. They are not even sized down much.

The idea of SCAR sounds genious to me. A weapon system can chamber varied calibers with minimal modification. So the users can grab whatever ammo they capture. That's exactly what the SpeOps need when they are operating behind enemy lines, right?

I'm (was?) pretty good at GL I can say. But they are just useless now. Sometime I even can't drop a target by landing the bomber right on him. The guy just dashed through the blast and smoke, like the supper heroes in movies.

I actually don't know where the problem is, fire delay, small damage radius, or both.

I hope they give GL a larger splash radius, but certainly don't want the n00b tubes back. So they can reduce the damage to make it less lethal. Then at least we can use them as light mortar in a support role.

The G3 would be immense with a decent clip size. No more G36E squads busting my ass when we come face to face.

Yea, they are also making a SCAR that fits the 7.62 M43 round (the round AK-47s use), so it will never 'run outta ammo' as all the dead guys will have nice ammo for you.

                        That's the SCAR-H variant, I believe? Chambered for 7.62mm (-L is 5.56 NATO)

No, there is the -L for the 5.56 NATO round, there is a -H version for a 7.62mm NATO round, and there is another one for the 7.62 M43 round

Right, it's just a SCAR-H with modifications to accept clips from AK/AK variants, I thought.. I will stop arguing because I really don't know much about guns.

The coolest thing with the XM8 was the universal aimpoint sight, which was really nice. The other thing was the improved reliability over the Stoner gas system, which fouls easily. Not a big enough improvement to justify a rearmament.

Of course, the last radical concept change was the ACR program of the late 80s, early 90s, of which NOTHING was purchased, despite some really cool ideas:

1.) G11: Volley fired caseless rounds. Three rounds out of the barrel before recoil stroke hits operator (aka, three hits in ultra-tight burst), 50% more ammo for operator, nearly double ammo capacity in clip, nasty armor penetration.

2.) Steyr ACR: Fletchette firing rifle. Saboted fletchettes VERY fast on target, no real lead or "hold-over" needed, was dubbed the "ray gun" in testing for its insane accuracy, penetrates armor like it was butter, fins shear and splinter in target (nasty cavitation).

3.) AAI ACR: Duplex rounds. Double bullets that scatter in the air, sort of like the old Project SALVO weapons.

What kill all of them was cost and rearmament logistics. While all interesting, they had drawbacks, mainly in ammunition cost and manual of arms retraining. West Germany did purchase the G11, but then reunited with East Germany, and needed the money to pay for reconstruction, leading to program cancellation.

(BTW, any of these guns, especially the first two, would ROCK in Battlefield. Just a note, incase you're watching, EA.)

In all honesty, I hope the next US service rifle for the Army/Marines will be something like the Barrett M468 or H&K 416 in 6.8 SPC. The Remington SPC cartridge is a brilliant close quarters round, getting over the lethality problems of the new(er) Green Bullet 5.56 rounds. I would also like to see a short stroke piston as the action, because the direct gas feed is so touchy after extended use.

Although, if the US were to suddenly haul around and declare that they were going to go back and buy G11s after a decade of disinterest, I'd probably faint from a gungeek surge of joy.

Oh, and BUILD THE PANCOR JACKHAMMER!

Maralyn, we all the XM8 has built in aimpoint. BUt the gun it was highly based on, the G36, has even better. It has a built in 3.5x scope, and a 1.5x aimpoint right on top of it, so that makes it uber useful for cqc, and long range combat. The G11 was one seriously awesome weapon, 50 round clip, caseless rounds, and it shot a three shot burst at around 2000 rpm. too bad it got canceled. Also, the Steyr idea was awesome with flecchettes. Never heard of the AAI ACR, but sounds cool to me. Anyways, yea, the HK416 and the barret 468 are awesome.
