The effectiveness of cartillery is way overstated. 9 times out of 10, if you drop a vehicle on a prone enemy he won't die (unless he's hit by a wheel). Dropping vehicles on armor only does a couple of bars of health damage. It is most effective on standing infantry or those sitting in fixed AA. One can bring down a chopper with cartillery and if one is really lame they can block runways and drop vehicles on the Essex.

I haven't been able to try "cartillery", but as soon as I get my graphics card I will :). It seems fun...

Better late than never. Problem is in all the time I've spent in 1.3 I had been playing infantry/armor/plane and in many rounds I had yet to see a commander use the vehicle drop succesfully in an offensive fashion, so I presumed it was mostly worthless and no different than 1.1-1.22 commanders.

I easily snagged at least 12-15 smush kills that round from the vehicle drop and stopped 3 or 4 flags at neutral status and prevented them from being fully captured with vehicles alone. And I must admit each kill was about 4 seconds of parachute suspense capped off by a bit of giddish laughter as my unsuspecting prey was squashed.

Use it on arty. If you land it dead center, BOOM, arty is down. God DICE is stupid. I saw someone doing this to the American arty on Wake, I think it was HebrewHammer14 actually.

Twofold...killing infantry directly but primarily to disable the two fixed AA positions to make the Essex more vulnerable to bombing/strafing.

That isn't to say I haven't played a commander before this patch, but I always felt commander pre 1.3 lacked functionality. As such I've always been a pretty straight forward meat and potatoes BF2 player, playing a medic and grabbing a tank/APC/plane when possible. Though today I decided to give commander mode another chance.

Pre 1.3 commander was straight forward, you'd drop artillery on the largest chunk of enemies, drop a UAV in the area most heavily infested by enemy, drop the occasional supply crate for a tank or APC, and toss around a few orders. Pre 1.3 commander certainly lacked something, and that something was the vehicle drop.

I cannot stress how much I love that commander vehicle drop. Extremely fast recycle time, and is like the sniper rifle version of artillery. In my last game I lost count of the number of annoying rooftop snipers I crushed. I also found the vehicle drop works extremely well for smushing (pun intended) a one man ninja flag capture attempt. Oh, and don't forget to drop a vehicle on those annoying Vodnik/HMMV gunners, as it takes them out quite nicely and they always tend to die in a hilarious fashion after their vehicle tips over on impact.

To summarize:

1.3 commander mode gets my thumbs up, and if you haven't given it a try lately you should.

Now if those damn players would just stop outranking me.

1.8 Players may not use or exploit game mechanisms to artificially boost their score ("stats padding") and Server administrators may not knowingly allow or encourage this activity on their servers.

I believe "Cartilllary" falls under that designation as a no-no under the BFROE.

Actually, on that subject:

We have paid for a game and agreed to the rules outlined by the liciensing agreement which stipulates none of this. They cannot enforce this on a paying customer without having their ass sued back to the stone age "I have committed x amount of hours to this game, they have gone and 'deleted' the fruits of that labour, I am paid an hourly rate of y amount, because they have waste x amount of my time i expect to be paid x*y+z amount, where z is the amount i have paid for this game and its expansions, as they have broken the liciensing agreement that they made.

IN YOUR FACE, NDN! I KNEW I was right. And I check too, no mention of bf "ROE" ANYWHERE in the EULA. I'm sorry, but victory is MINE.

I don't think so, it may be "cheap", but cartillary hurts the enemy, now if someone were dropping jeeps way out in the ocean, & getting points for it, it would be stat padding

for examle: If I feed you ammo while you chuck nades @ the enemy it is cheap, but legit, if I supply you w/ ammo while you chuck nades in the middle of nowwhere we are stat padding

Have you guys noticed that when you cartillery a guy, his "no more" message actually shows up in red? It almost implies that your team lost a ticket, but I have yet to verify if that's true.

Once I was flying over the essex when my plane got shot down. I landed on the essex and my commander droped a buggy for me (and or) the enemy commander tried to squish me and missed. What fun I had running down the people waiting for planes and choppers.

When I command as china on wake, that's what I do. Give the idiots on carrier a jeep and they'll happily kill their own teamates with it.
