horrible sound and freeze in BF2 mult. menu

Hello i just reinstalled window xp home in my pc, and i fully updated it (has SP2, directx9 june06,CCC..), now i installed BF2, and then instaled patch 1.3Full, but when i go to "multiplayer" my game freezes and squeking sounds comes out of my speakers making my ears bleed.

-what could it be and is there a fix to it?

Could be an un-stable OC, have you tried playing with your default clock.
If that works then go back to your OC setting and up the vcore a little and run prime95 for a few hrs, see if it's stable.
