    Re: Essex and Supply Crates

I could still kill anyone who tried that without getting hit once. They'de be lucky to turn the gun around in time to see me. Not to mention if you drive bombed the carrier there is a very slight chance the gunner will even notice you coming in and then say byebye to those 3 crates, you and everyone in that corner of the carrier.

If your teams commander was actually willing to waste 3 supply crates on the ship then maybe its time to find a new commander.

You dont understand. If youre using the MG. The whole way from the start when you start shooting, up until you pass the cannon, the supply crates actually repair off the damage. You wont be able to do much of anything, rather than disturb the cannoneer. The ONLY way to counter 3+ crates is to bomb the cannon right after you passed it. However, Ive seen some pretty wild gunners who wont give you a chance to pass. And if the missile button is pressed, **** hits the fan. Theres no reload time. You basically shoot your missiles as if you had an unlimited supply instead of 8. Its pretty wild ****.

As for commander wasting 3 crates... I recall a kit named Engineer, then theres a Medic and of course Support. Its all covered.

Exactly...a moderatly good pilot can kill you on the way in and you'll be dead before he'll ever get within 100m of the carrier.

        Remember:
-> a pilot can shoot you outside your visual range
-> you probably don't know which direction he's coming at you from
-> pilot knows exactly where you are

The solution is that while inside the AA you should have at least a 400m Ground-to-Air radar (only shows aircraft and helicopters in your HUD while inside the AA).

The problem is that any moderately good pilot will always kill the USS Essex turret on the first pass. 9 times out of 10 you won't even get a lock on the pilot before you're dead. This goes for helicopters too...they will TV guilde missle you before you can get a lock (they drop flares @ 350m, where you just start to get a lock - co-pilot shoots and they fly backwards outside of your range, but the TV missile will still hit you because it was fired within the 350m area).

Huh? Hmm...lets see...use 3 supply crates on the USS Essex turret where the occational plane comes by, or use it to keep 3 different squads alive who are actually capturing/defending flags?

This is why I think the commander should be able to drive the USS Essex around the ocean. Atleast make it a moving target of some sort. Imagine the helicopters being able to reload off the coast line, rather then have to fly back to the other side of the map.

            Oh the possible fun awaits.

I don't know, just my thought.

            Great vid btw.

Again, you dont understand. The MAXIMUM, a pilot can do, is to drop the turret down to the red zone, provided that he is good at what he does. The repair rate is just AMAZING, what the 3 supply crates can do. All that is left for a pilot to do is to finish the Essex off with the bombs. He cant take it out with the cannons in one pass unless he kills the supply crates early, so he cancels the repairs. Otherwise, he is shooting with no result. Im not talking about pilot not being able to kill the Essex because the Essex may kill him. Im talking about pilot not being able to do enough damage to the turret to kill it in one pass.

Of course, one can always slow down, but thats where that good Essex gunner will take him out with even less effort.

I have yet to see a supply crate save a squad. My squad usually has 2 medics and a support. Other 3 players can alter kits depending on their needs. One is a hardcore assaulter. That leaves 2 players to alter from spec ops to engineers. THAT saves a squad, not a supply drop. Thats of course, if you think a squad is a tank.

Ive only used a supply crate to rearm myself, and even then its a moment of opportunity. Never needed a supply crate to "survive", unless Im in armor. But then, armor is only used sometimes as a squad support in capping flags, squad is still doing all the work, leaving armor for transportation mostly.

So no, I dont mind if commander commands in the Essex tower, has 3 supply crates around him and can down the jets foolishly aproaching the carrier, just as long as I get the UAV, occasional artillery support and a general intel on OPFOR troop movements.

Alot of this is true if the person in the essex turret isn't a AA whore. Remember that the essex can shoot well beyond visual range as well. If you get spotted on your approach it's going to be tons harder, if not a kill each other situation. The main thing that people in the essex seem to forget is keeping that gun warmed up, spinning it just enough so that when the plane starts shooting at you, you can rip them apart. Planes usually do get the jump on you, however their guns are slightly weaker, and it's a touch harder to aim, where if you keep the essex guns warmed up, you can rip through a plane pretty easily. Plus if your using both of the essex turrets, taking out one isn't that big a deal, the second one will either kill you or send you packing with black smoke.

I miss the carrier being mobile in BF1942... and the frigate that guarded it also...

Wake 2k7 is a crappy map.

Who the hell allows 10 palm trees to grow up all around an AA station? Did they think we wouldnt want to shoot level to the ground? idiot map designers...

If I was in charge of defending Wake Island first thing I would do would be plow over those stupid AA-interfering trees with my tank...
