lol, obviously I play for fun and the stats/ranks are a peripheral distraction that provide goals beyond "logging in and killing noobs".

I dont actually "Grind" but knowing where I am, how long it took to get there, and how far I have to go until my next unlocks calls attention to the fact that it feels like a grind.

I'm in between the 20 - 50 000, and dont have any problems with it.

I play for fun, not for some images and numbers. :p

I wish that there was a way to revert to a Private but keep the unlocks. That way, you could be a "Q Ship" player, looking harmless but packing a G3/PKM/L96 in your pocket.

With all the dead bodies usually lying around who needs unlocks?Pick and choose what you need and frag away until the situation demands a different kit.Works for me:)

Still.... give it a week or so, and I'll be at 50K with my last two unlocks

I remember the grind from pre-nerfed rank requirements times. After i got the 4-6 unlocks needed for my kind of game, i just played for fun. And realized playing mash/kark/sharqi was 10x more fun than grinding all the ****ty maps.

The haul from Gunny Sgt to First Sgt is brutal. I dont imagine I will progress past First Sgt but these long grinds between ranks are harsh!

I need to find some green mobs and grind about 5,000 more exp.

                      woot.
Ah, I'm the same rank as you mate and yes it is a bit daunting. How the Christ do people find the time?

Sometimes I don't even know if I'm enjoying the game at all. Enjoyment irrelevent. Must get kills, must get points, must win war for Islamofascist jihadis...

Originally when the game came out, you would have to grind exp. to get unlocks. They were every two promotions or something.

Now, I just want to get the rank I set as my goal when I first started playing - Colonel, I believe. But as I said before, time is running out, and this is seemingly more unlikely.

What's really a grind is working in an office, day in and day out. I can't wait to start teaching.

                            Re: Grinding experience

I got to 1st sgt, but seriously, ranks mean little. Instead of going to next 20k (i already got to 30k) I decided to start a new account.

I concentrate on team work with this account and wins. I'm also trying to build up good stats with the guns.

There are only a handful of unlocks that are worth unlocking.

Just join a server with a 4285958400 second respawn time, get yourself killed and when you finally revive, it will be 2142! Perfect!

Although, you know, with about 1 second left, a medic will revive you right in front of a tank and you will get killed and have to wait another 136 years. . . but that's okay.

That's also my veiw at this point. I like playing the game itself, from the stand point of trying to win, or at least going down swinging in a loss, and learning from it.

I won't make First Sargent, because of the badges needed. I really don't see myself going out of my way to get my knife badge at any given moment on any server. I might end up getting a sniper badge, if ever start sniping, which I should learn, but have put off for a month now.

I think the alternative point, rank, and medals incentives system has failed miserably.

It's failed because the loosely written ROE for server administrators has given rise to too many variations in servers. Let's face it, if you play in a server that doesn't allow attacking of the UCB and your a pilot, your going to rack up points in an entirely different manner then on a server that does allow attacking of the UCB. The list of feebly inforced rules goes on and on, creating entirely different atmospheres and potential combat situations in each server. A rigid map rotation isn't even inforced. That itself would throw any accuracy off for accumulated rank, points, and medals.

Even with out the changes in the ROE or the original ROE and Global server regulations, the original system itself of rank ,points and badges seems counterintuitive to the rest of the gameplay design. Or at least the requirements for the badges and medals seems at odds with everything else.

Individual awards in a squad based shooter? It doesnt' make any sense. I'm trying to capture a flag, and instead of the the person with me gunning down the next spawner, he attempts to knife him to gain an incremental change on a server recorder, in order to be able to display a grahpic that isn't grayed out in a signature?

If anything the requirements should have attempted to reflect team play and sacrifice. Not just accumulations of kills IAR or some other statistic that no matter how many ways you cut it, you'd be a detrement to your team at some point while trying to acheive it.

Nope, it's Gunny for me from here on out. I have no interest in altering what I find fun and challenging for something that seems counterproductive and is essentially a plastic carrot on a string inticement.

I'm sure there are some badges that can be gained through team play and objective based play. I commend those who actually do gain them this way. I don't condemn those who do not. It is part of the game that was introduced from it's outset, and if you find it challenging and fun then so be it. But I simply bore of it quickly, nearly as fast as I do while "playing" offline. For me it has the same empty feeling as killing bots.
