    Re: ranks/stats

Maybe the disagreement centers on what makes a "good" player. Yeah, a high k/d means you are pretty good. But what about being willing to spawn as an engi and defend the suburbs in Karkand, rather than hopping in the transport and going to the next cap point? You may only get to send the occasional tank/apc/transport to the respawn--and you're certainly missing out on alot of the action and flag capping--but aren't you a "good" player who stays put and keeps a CP under the right flag?

I had a 190pt round last night, playing as MEC CO(engi) on Kark w/20 people (10v10) on a 32p size map. It came down to the wire--we lost our base twice--and my assets(!!!)--and never got them back when the score was 50-25 us, but one of the guys on my team held the suburbs, allowing me to keep dropping vehicles so that the rest of us could stay mobile and keep grabbing flags.

And a good time was had by all. Well, me espcially: +1 gold medal for me (they don't happen very often), and I got the 10h total CO time I need for one of the ribbons.

Having said all that, the ribbons, medals, ranks, and scores measure exactly what they measure. Don't necessarily read subjective things (i.e. "good") into them.

it means nowt to anyone but it does help to have a higher rank because then people know your for real and not some noob that wants a lil buzz from teamkilling.

ranks mean nowt to me, but you earn my respect by not acting like a noob, and not for bieng a general.

I never said i hate em, but just sayin, it's actually realy easy to armor whore if you just noticed, and same with plane whore and chopper whore (if you got a joystick). Plus, i don't play CS (AWP campers), plus, this isn't close to war, war is americas army, this is just a arcady war game that's fun. If it was real, tanks are basically invulnerable to infantary, guns would do 1 shot kills in chest almost all the time, aircraft would pwn all besides AA stuff. And Artillery.... Anwyways, i just don't consider tank whores or airplane whores or chopper whores skilled. It doesn't mean i ahte em. Basically, if they spend more than half of the time in all their playing time in vehicles, then i can't really consider them skilled.

Probably more a reference to players that aren't any good unless they are in a tank, plane, or helo, and suck at that too. There's one guy, highest rank you can get, and he absolutely sucks, All he does is spawncamp the hotel and square in Karkand, and he sucks at that too, terrible player, yet he has four stars simply because he has been sitting in an APC spawncamping longer than someone else.

ex, I have a 2.5 kdr with infantry and 28.9% accuracy. You know I'd rape you, right?

I find that even good infantry players are not guaranteed to win a 1v1 fight against even a seminoob. BF2's horrible accuracy, deviation and netcode are the ultimate factor in determining the winner. Most of the time, the weapon matters much more than the skill of the player.

Im infantry primarily, but I'm TGBF's chopper pilot and I also do light armor. I can tank but I am no where near a starting tanker whose primary job is only that. For a competition player I am very well rounded. I can also solo guide and gun pretty well too. When it comes down to it, 90% of people play infantry more than anything, that is probably why it is discussed the most. That does not mean thats all a person can do though.

at first glance yes rank means they have played more so they should have better map knowledge/flying/tank/skill etc

but after a few mins u can tell if there a good player or just played alot

the best helo gunners ive had have been corp/sgt, when they got in i was thinking hes not going to fire the bloody tv missile, boy was i happy with there skills :)

I think im like a staff sgt. on this account, I have about 5 other accounts around the same and 1-2 that are in the 40-50,000 point range. Playing competition = changing squad tags when you go to a new squad...stats reset. All these lieutenants and higher generally have never played a scrim against a good team, and stand no chance against a decent competitive player. Rank means jack. But yea, generally speaking unless I have someone in vent that I want to gun for me I'll give the pubnub gunner 1 chance. 90% of the time I am let down and they try shooting the machine gun only at the other chopper from far away and does not even consider the tv guide.

                        Re: ranks/stats

It all depends on how you look at stats. I usually look at spm and k/d ratio and compare them to mine and think what it would take me to get to that level. Vehicle whore or not. I've seen vehicle whores with crappy stats too. It's all in how the person looking at the stats decifers them. I think you could show the same stats to 50 people and get 50 different opinions on the guys skill level.

I guess another thing to conisder is that people improve. I think my stats would be better if I had started a new account after i learned to play, but this is my only account and i never played 1942. I was learning to play on the ranked servers (sorry to all those poor guys I killed in the chopper).

Yea, thanx for clarifying, that's what i mean, i see people that get like 90 points in a tank, next round, he never gets the tank and gets 12 points lol.

                            Re: ranks/stats

Its kinda hard to tell skill by stats. Sure, there are guys with amazing numbers, but who knows how long they have played to get those numbers. Not to say people with high ranks and big numbers are bad, its just that with enough time, anyone can get to the big ranks. I have only been playing for a few months, only being able to get on a few times on weekends, and even though I am just a sargeant, I still get to the upper levels of the ranks during battles. (even if my stats sometimes look like crap )

Skill cannot be soley counted on the numbers, because numbers are only half the story.

well, the only real way to see someones skill level is to play with them over a long period of time and figure out how their average gameplay is. so of course nobody is gonna do that, way to impractial. the next best way is to look at someones stats

Yea, because the stats don't tell everything, like how many times people have gotten kills on nearly no health guys, or how many points one person gets in an average round as an infantary, and stuff like that. Only if you play with the guy, will you know how good they are.
