    ranks/stats

Why does the majority of this community/forum look solely at someone's rank or stats to classify their "skill level"? I find it absolutely ludicrous. Someone please explain it to me.

So it's ludicrious for us to think that a baseball player with a batting average of .036 is terrible?

Because one can assume that the better your stats and the higher your rank, then the better player you are.

I think a lot of people will agree that that isn't necessarily true - rank does not mean skill. But that's where stats come in. High rank, good k/d ratio, good accuracy, good score per minute and per round will help to indicate skill.

Anyone who plays for a long time can get a high rank without getting more skilled. It's important to consider both.

Think about it this way - when you first learned to ride a bike, or roller blade, were you as good as you are now? Were you the best? No, but time and practice can make you better. Want some ranks? Tricycle=Private, Training Wheels=Corporal, Two wheel=Sgt., No-handed=Leiutenant, etc. (Those are arbitrary and on-the-spot).

Can you honestly say that player was trying his hardest? I know many comeptition players that outright **** around to the extreme whenever in a pub and do not take it seriously. They're stats will suck, does that mean they suck? You can look at stats to a slight extent, but it seems like people around here read them like they're the 10 commandments.

OK. So you're saying people take them too seriously. That's another story. Yes, I've seen a few people say, "you're a private, stay away" but for the most part, I haven't had many problems with these kinds of people.

Baseball players can't pad thier stats to make themselves look better. While there are many ways in which someone playing BF2 can. And like Exile said, alot of competition players couldn't care less how they perform in pubs.

I dont post here a whole lot, but everytime I visit the forums I see the reoccuring, whats you're KDR, look at this player's stats, whats your accuracy, etc. etc.

The only one that in my mind would be partially worth looking at is accuracy, but on the same token it does not matter. If I am in a 1v1 infantry fight with you, if I shoot 30 bullets and hit with 5. Then you shoot 10 bullets and hit with 3, but I still kill you. Maybe you take your time to aim and make those shots count, but I am going to kill you every single time regardless of what my accuracy is. That would make me the better player even if your accuracy is higher.

But take for example my stats, I have roughly a 2.18 KDR and overall accuracy of 21%. Find a group of infantry players with higher than a 2.18 KDR and higher than 21% accuracy and let me play each one of them 1v1. We'll see what the results show.

                I think I have like 3000 TKs.

I must suck at the game, oh wait. =|

Stealth edit: exile is right, stats, ranks and whatnot mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in being able to determine one's skill, or lack there of.

                  So wheelchair = n00b ?

Uh I really look at stats every every time I get in the chopper with some lance corperal, private guy he can't hit sh*t ****es me off I love te explain people somethings that I know and that work fine in-game.. But sometimes I really think why.. Just why ? So I get a Blackhawk, take off and gun those people down.. If I don't like choppering with privates then I will just get out let them have it, and get another vehicle.

I also made a new rule today.. If someone doesn't says sorry to me if he teamkilled I'll just punish that fella on purpose or not, no sorry if no forgive (Of course it has to be their fault )

Rank means very little, but a combination of KDR, SPM, TK's, etc can give you a picture of how someone plays.

hypothetically speaking, the best player in the world may have only played bf2 in a match/scrim environment and never played on a ranked pub server, his/her stats may be non-existant, what does that mean?

who is that girl in your avatar? =] wow

There should be a competition players vs. Total Noofield 2 Forum users game.

Team Competition would be selected amongst CAL people.

Team Pub Tard would be selected voluntarily if you do not play in a clan, but frequent these forums and think you're good enough.

Well, if they got their points from armor whoring, plane whoring, chopper whoring, i don't consider them truly skilled.
