    Flare Bug.... Not real at all what so ever

    Hi,

    I was wondering what tips do some of you fliers do when executing an exvasive manuver, trying to out run a heat seaking missle following you?

    -My thoughts are either pull up, HARD.. and Bank a few and launch flares(that is after about 1.5seconds after you hear the final lock on alarm that alerts you that A missle is following you, and hope to god it doesn't hit you....

    What I do not like about the Flares in BF2, are that you can't shoot them out repeatedly, which YOU CAN IN REAL LIFE(do not argue this(ask a fighter pilot b4 you argue it)).....which after the BF2 1.2 patch.......the missles Stay locked on 60% of the time now.......I hate it...not here to complain a bunch......just to get some responses on my first post here.

    The 'not one at a time' thing is probably for balance, much like the reload times. And for being able to hit through the flares, I think the flares are targeting problems. I've noticed that when I chase someone after they've dropped flares I can still lock onto them but I have to be very precise. As for whether or not the missile will lose the original locked target and follow another heat source, I have no idea. I'm a very inexperienced (BF2) pilot.

      If you launch flayers you have to dip down into them because they drop. This way you get the most time in the un-lock field. But often times flayer's won't make a difference in the JSF.

        wtf is a flayer?

        The idea is to drop the flare away from you so the missile will seek that instead of you. To fly back into your flares defeats the purpose.

          ^^^, smart............now why couldn't I think of that.........

          omfg I just tried to write about a three paragraphs about Flares and it said I needed to log in again.....boy am I ****ed like no other;

          ARGHHHHHHHHHHH OMFG

          anyway here goes again!!!!!!!!!!!

          __________________________________________________ ____
          All of these will be used in Examples so you'll get the idea better, faster;(PLUS ALL OF THIS GOES FOR AIRCRAFT, HELICOPTERS)

          FLARES;

          Say you are flying in BF2 or Real Life, in a MIG-29, and all of a sudden you hear the Incoming Missle Alarm System(the annoying, but frightening, adrenalin rushing(adren. rushing in RL of course) alarm going off)......you immediatly Bank the opposite way of where the missle is heading towards you..........now PAUSE!

          Read on INFORMATION BELOW;

          *1st* The Incoming Missle Alarm System(IMAS) went off, because someone found your aircraft flying in target range of the Heat Seeking Mechanism of their device that they are trying to use to shoot you down whether it be a (Aircraft(Airplane, or Helicopter), Anti-Aircraft-Artillery(AAA(commonly said as "Triple A" or "AA", or "AA gun"))....they are tracking the heat coming from your aircraft;

          *2nd* The way to stop them~enemy, or avoid them.. is to launch flares.....or......possibley like in Real Life.... shoot something that'll make tremendous amounts of heat, so that the so cal "Heat Seeking Missle" will target the most heat.....which is hopfully I-ther your planned explosion that you tried to make w/ something.....or...................

          *3rd* ....or a something called a Flare, that you could shoot out of your Aircraft............A flare is just a "Flare" used to fake the missle following you, to think that the heat from the flare you should have shot out, is really your aircraft..... In Real life you can shoot out 3x, 4x as many as you can in BF2(in BF2 you can shoot out what once, 5, 6-8 come out then you have to wait a few..for them to reload..(in RL you can fire all 30-50-70 flares as quickly as you can dump them from your aircraft)

          HEAT SEEKING MISSLE; They follow objects by a sensor in the Missle, which locks, or follows Heat coming from the designated Assigned Heat Point which the Launch Personnel decided to fire it at.....Again.....shooting the flare acts as another heat source.......which fakes the HeatSeekingMissle into thinking that it's supposed to lock onto that, instead of your airplane that is hopfully flying free w/ no IMAS sounds going off.

          Just my 2 Cents of it....... Information by a Friend who works at the Grayling, Michigan, USA Air Gunnery Range.

          -ALWAYS REMEMBER WHEN POSTING A POST, COPY AND SAVE IT.....to a TEXT FILE ON YOUR DESKTOP, ......I learned from that as you can see at the beginning of the post...! :-D

          RADAR, is something different; RADAR missles follow aircraft because of their position on the Radar of the folks that are trying to spot the aircraft..... In this case. for Example;

          A Boeing B-52H StratoFortress(hopfully all know what plane I am taking about(huge...in a way..... eight engine loud, LOUD! Heavy Metal Bomber(commonly known as BUFF(Big Ugly Fat Fellow(well truly its not fat at all....its real skinny))) Anyways.. like I said, it is a "Heavy Metal, Loud, "Bomber" ..which shows up on radar 50x the size as the F-35B probably does.......way more than the -35B For SURE!_______________________________

          Inside that Circle is; O=Enemy Radar
          *=Friendly F-35B
          ( )=Friendly B-52H
          And the box outline is the RADAR's Range of operation.

          Basically this works exactly like the "UAV" Unmaned Aerial Vehicle....

          As you can see the *= F-35B, and ( )=B-52H is clearly visible and well in range of the Enemy RADAR operation zone.

          This is not in BF2...... no automated Radar Guided Missles in BF2.......... :-(

          The Enemy's RADAR can and will Report each aircraft's exact postion, for the SAMs (Surface to Air Missle(s)) for the Enemy to fire at the Friendlies.... so.... now it comes to Air Defense from the Pilots; PAUSE in RL(real life)

          *1st* RADAR GUIDED MISSLE, LOCKS ON TO THE AIRCRAFT, Gets its info from the ENEMY's RADAR, Stores info about the target into the Missle and the missle fires away at the aircraft locked onto it......which It is locked onto the metal of the aircraft........because the siginal from the radar started there........well like cell phones.......... and radios....... What Screws up your signal ?!?!?!?!? hint hint.....a bunch of metal!!!!!! hey why not put a bunch of metal pieces in aircraft.... so that they can launch them out when a RADAR Guided Missle is locked onto them!

          *2nd* ... Metal Pieces; "CHAFF" used when an aircraft is locked onto by a RADAR Guided Missle is following the the aircraft...... the Pilot shoots out CHAFF which makes the RADAR Missle Spaz out, or change its lock on postion onto the CHAFF.....thinking again its the aircraft, or if it is Spazing out.....then possibiley loosing Radar Signal Connection.......failure to locate a target.....so both ways......the Friendly flies free..... and resumes their Mission.

            You already posted that... A link would have been better than copy/paste the whole thing.

              Re: Flare Bug.... Not real at all what so ever

              If you fly straight after using flares, there's a decent chance the A2A might fly through and still hit the target (especially if the pilot keeps paints the target the whole time). The flares work better just prior to a direction change (hard bank) and a little bit less when turning and the releasing flares. If you are in the F-35, forget it. When I get a lock on an F-35 it goes down 80% or more regardless of how or when the flares are dropped. It's hopeless against the J10.

              The other tactic that I rarely see used or discussed is speed changes. For reasons still unknown to me, merely slowing down and speeding up combined with some movement can make the missiles lose the target. Also, I have noticed the some of the bombers can fly at certain slower speeds where simple turns are enough to shake a good lock. The good news is they can't outrun the guns that way.

              I have seen others try altitude changes. One way to use higher altitude is for high speed escapes asssuming you can get there before you get shot down. The high speed combined with some evasive manuevers can be enough to either outrun the missiles or get them confused. I have watched with humor as some pilots attempt to "dolphin dive" in the air by going up and down in small altitude changes, but a patient pilot will wait for the right time when locked in the right position for the kill.

                Flares are completely fine... nothin wrong with them. Anyone who says otherwise, needs a lesson on using BF2 flares.
