Chopper gunner.

Hey yall,

I have been getting better at flying the chopper but my new frustration is that I cannot find a decent gunner. I am pretty good at getting gunners opportunities to take out armor and squads but most random gunners are useless 3/4ths of the time. There is nothing more frustrating than hovering over a sitting-duck-of-a-target and watching your gunner just enjoy the scenery.

I have yet to find a group of people that I can regularly play with so I have come here to ask for people who want to practice @ becoming good gunners. I ask that you have a mic and are on/near the west coast. I am not looking for a clan or anything like that, just someone who wants to learn to gun.

If you have not tried it, you are missing out. 2nd only to being a good pilot, a gunner can easily rack up mad points and dominate a server. My xfire = r4nd0mn3ss and I play nearly every nite for a few hours, depending on how many server crashes and CTDs I can handle.

well, u gotta contend with those 'scenery gunners'. i even had one that wont shoot even when i lined up the chopper right behind a campin enemy. lol

Seriously dude if you are getting frustrated at people who only dont know how to gun then I am suprised that you have not shot yourself in the face with an M-16. BF2 is about odds and ratios, out of every 10 gunners you may get like...3 good ones, if you expect that then its easy to learn to live with it.

Biggest thing I could suggest would be to ensure they're in your squad and you are using voip or vent or some means of communication.

Absolutely essential. It's practically impossible (in my experience) to gun/fly effectively with others if you're not plugged into a voice system of some kind. Even if it's just so you can taunt the gunner when he misses easy targets.

Chill bro, I am just looking for some consistency. I did not mean to sound like I was putting other gunners down. I would just like someone with the same goal in mind to work with. That's all.

Give the gunner your carrying a try - if they sit and do nothing, then ignore the fact that you got another spot in your chopper - got out there and kill everyone yourself, you are in a attack chopper aren't you?

Try and find a clan server with freindly people theres a chance youll find a nice gunner, 19 inch monitor makes gunning so easy.

Spraying infantry with the cannon or MG isn't skill. Skill is with the TV missile, just from looking at your short video you had one kill with the TV missile and that was hitting a stationery tank, not saying you suck, but I hit moving tanks, moving choppers and sometimes jets either by myself or with someone else, even though I rarely am gunner. But I won't claim to be ''teh pwange''. But I'd like to 1 v 1 you sometime or 1 v 2 if you want :).

Person who made the first post, I'd suggest that if you pub just solo, its what I do all the time in a pub server. I have a memory of what gunners I know are good or what pilots I know are good and I would let them in. Really I take Sloi's advice that most gunners you would get are dumbass ****s, I mean everytime I let a gunner in he doesn't know how to use the tv missile and just sprays. If I solo then I can take out tanks and other choppers myself. Or if I get someone who I know is good with the chopper then I'll let them in for sure.

It's way worse being a gunner.

There are rarely good pilots.. Cause when you gun, you have a certain "style", and most of the time the pilot has a completely different method of getting things done than you do. You really just need to find a gunner/pilot and stick with it pretty much. Get on vent/TS etc.

I fly all the time with chodda. He's a good gunner, that was just a tiny clip of absolutely nothing. It's a good mix of everything. Pretty much when there's nothing around we will just kill infantry, and then the second we see something, it gets camera'd (even jets sometimes). Or like in the beginning of the round we just go on a camera missle spree and just blow everything up. There aren't ever dogfights, except for when chodda is recording and has low FPS and misses a missle, or the not so rare glitch when the missle goes right through the ****ing chopper (I hated that when I was gunner...!).. But yeah don't judge on a little clip. lol.

Hmmm chodda, played with you for a few hours today in 24/7 Wake Island Madness...Its true, ur a good gunner but stop tk'ing for the helo with the other guy u were always flying with.

Alternatively, if you can get a friend to jump on, have him TK your useless gunner, and seat himself inside instead.
