General Clan info, not a tonne of adverts..

Hi, I was just wondering if any experienced players who have been in a clan, or are currently, could give me a bit of advice on what they intail and whether they are worth joining. I have heard they dramatically increase the team aspect and realism of the game which for me, even in a squad on a good server, has been lackluster at best.
Also, i have heard you need to start a new account as many clans have 'tags' that need to be added to join. What is a tag and how do you add it?

in the clan i have been in, there was absolutually no feeling of community and my gameplay was exactually the same. as i said to someone before, its not like me playing with a team of ppl working together. its just me playing with a bunch of random ppl who have the same tag.there is not real reason to join one, cause no matter all the stuff they say (fun!, teamwork!, friendly people!, clan tournements!, etc...) to try to drag u in, there is no real special stuff that happens in a clan. trust me, every single clan says the same stuff, but there is not really any advatange whatsoever of being in a clan
*edit* now i bet tons of ppl r gonna say *hey, MY clan isnt like that! we have bla bla bla, and bla bla bla, and u should join NOW!! this is the website...."

I have seen that on every single clan thread i have looked at lol. That why i posted here to hear the opinions of real players rather than a toone of noob recruiters. Thanks for the advice, will take into account. Any other perspectives?

there is no real special stuff that happens in a clan. trust me, every single clan says the same stuff, but there is not really any advatange whatsoever of being in a clan

having that chopper piolet that you know can fly, flying for you and line you up, having medics that you know WILL heal you or haviing support guys that you know WILL give you ammo, have a laugh at things that just happend over teamspeak which just dosnt happen over voip, and about a million and one other things. . . .

well most clans might require that you attened tranning sessions and maybe clan meetings to discuss things

well yes if you find a good clan then the team aspect will incress as you will be working with people who really are "on your team" not just fighting on the same side if you get what i mean? people will tend to play with more tactics in mind, although the realism of the game wont change much, but its nice to look around and see fellow green squad members actually close by and not on the other side of the map

no you dont need a new accout, a tag is the letters that stand/abbreviate for the clan, ]UK-C[ = UK Coalition, a prifix can be added to your name at the top of the account screen when your logging in.

id say its worth joining a clan if you find the right group of people, ive played bf2 since last july and joined a clan in jan and found it a lot of fun ive got to know a great group of people who i enjoy playing bf2 and other games with online and find it a lot of fun go for it what have you got to lose?? its not like it costs anything. . . .

hey spitsfreeman, im not flaming u or nothin (its stupid to flame someone just cause they have a different opinion) but i DO know that any random person WILL heal me or give me ammo. u know y? cause anyone who is support or medic is usually just looking for quick points and will be more than happy to toss that bag

thanks spitsfreeman, a very good post. I'm glad you do not have to create a new account. Also, i have heard alot about teamspeak, i have recently purchased a mic + headset off the internet that should arrive soon, is team speak just talking via a mic to teammates? or do you have to be on a specific server?

yeah ranger i know what you mean you do get stuff from "some" other players (some people just dont care and pay no attention to me hopping up and down in front of them screaming "i need a medic here" lol, i just found myself that after joining a clan and getting into using things like team speak that i found squad work and such working a lot better. i find it a lot of fun having a group of people to play around who all have an idear of what they should be doing as a group and not just running from flag to flag.

edit : hay jay c, team speak is programe that runs in the back ground, you can connected to a sever normaly supported by your clan where you can chat, some clans have oppen channels in teamspeak that allows the public to join

I reccomend joining a clan.most clans have a server so youll always have a place to play that has rules enforced. also get to do scrims and matches wich are quite fun,imo. i know i have learned alot from my clan mates and wouldn't be half the player i am without them.

for teamspeak you must be on a teamspeak server.there is also ventrilo which is a bit more confusing to set up but i find to be a better program.anyway most clan servers have a teamspeak or ventrilo ip in the server info box while you load the map. you can usually have some good teamplay by joining their voice comm server.

being in a clan isnt just about playing, getting points and winning though, your looking at the situation complelty wrong. first and formost the clan should be about having fun, kicking back with some buddies and just having fun. id imagine the clan you were associated with prior just didnt have fun and enjoyment as their main reason for being to together. our guys dont spend 6 hours in the server together each night just for points and wins, formost they are there to have fun and talk with some friends. just remember this is about having fun and if you dont enjoy the time you spend talking and playing with your clan members your in the wrong clan.

Really starts with what type of clan are you looking for?

A community or realism clan (sometimes 30+ members), some of whom have a pretend military structure, pretend tactics and who pick on defenseless pubbers to improve their individual stats.

or

A competition clan (8-16 members) that competes in organized leagues vs. other clans in5v5, 8v8 or 12v12 competition on locked servers.

I have been in two clans in 7 years. I am still in the first, but play mainly in the second. They are both great groups of guys and I have made some real good "real life" friends out of the alliances in the virtual world. Two of my best friends in the world were met in the first clan. Our families hang out together and the kids get along great.

Clans have been given bad faces because there are occasions when you join a clan only to find out the members have no sense of community, nor any sense of self worth. They turn out to be self-serving and populated by people you would not normally socialize with. Sometimes they turn out to be teenagers who are out for a laugh and flame everyone and everything they can get their hands on.

Not all clans are like that. Anyone who tells you they are does not have the common sense to be selective about whom they hang out with. If you're willing to take the time to actually get to know the people in the clan BEFORE you sign on, you will be better informed and may find out you do not like the way they do things.

All I am saying is try to be smart, spend some time playing with the guys in the clan you want to join. Spend some time in their voice comm. server and talk to them. See what they are like. Most "adult" clans do not play head games and have a membership filled with adults who have lives and jobs. Usually they have enough responsibility in the real world to keep them from being child-like in the virtual world.

If you are really concerned about being in a clan, but don't know what clan to join, create a clan.

I never knew "exactually" was a word...:rofl: That is a new one even for me.

All I can say to dispute your post is what you said already. Not all clans are the same. If you join a clan full of pre-teens then expect that to be the general mindframe of the community. If you join a clan of adults, you can expect something with a little more substance and a more defined community-like enironment. You can't just blatantly blacklist every single clan and say something like that.

There are also various types of clans. Some are more competitive, some are more relaxed. It all depends on what you are looking for.
