I have a cyborg evo, and well, its nice for air targets, but sucks for ground targets when u want that precise aiming with the gun.

I hardly use it and stick with my mouse.

Make sure you get a Cyborg Evo, not a cheapy logitech one, it will die in a few months.

I sucked with kb/mouse then I bought a Saitek Cyborg evo, and I am now starting to get good good in a plane, I know some of the better pilots would look down at this score but i went 24-3 on zatar, and the 3 deaths from me doing stupid things lol.

My experience with the joystick.

I recently bought a joystick (Logitech 3D) and I hardly ever use it. I am still trying to figure out the basics, so for me, I think it was too early a purchase. I am discourgaed from using it since I am still trying to figure out how to master other parts of the game. So IMO, if you are going to buy a joystick, be prepared to be frustrated.

It takes some serious dedication and commitment to become a decent flyer with a joystick. Make sure you read up on most of the tips on customizing/tweaking your joystick and realize that it will take time away from actual playtime. You will most likely be playing singleplayer mode for a while, which can get boring (its the only real way to get consitant fly time). Then, when you feel you are finally ready to try and play on a real server, you will be seriously frustrated with all the plane whoring/tking involved. Unless you are lucky enough to find a server where most of the players are shying away from the jets; which is usually a bad sign since it probably means that the other teams is controlling the air and you will be shot down in seconds flat. After which you might decide to just go back to stomping the ground with the rest of us grunts.

Just my opinion based on my personal experience. I do eventually expect to go back to the joystick and give it another, more serious attempt. Just not now.

Keep in mind that I am still fairly new to BF2 and IMO not very good at it :cussing: !

All i can say is that i hope your one of the few pilots that aim to help their team with importannt kills and bombing enemy flag areas and capturing flags etc... rather than the stats padding w**kers who will TK you for going near them in a jet!

i'm reasonable in a jet,not great but not bad either and i use mouse/keyboard.
i bought a cyborg evo cos i wanted to give the jet whores a bit of a challenge instead of having to bail out regularly, however, it really was hard adjusting to flying with it and was taking too long to master,using one of my other accounts of course.
So now its sitting in the cupboard gathering dust and the missus is nagging me wondering where the new joystick is and is it working...blah...blah...blah

so no dont get one unless youve got patience and more patience to go with it

Yea i thought I was good with mouse untill I spent numerous nights playing operation clean sweep with the bots on 100 for skill, once I could own that damn bot in the plane I was ready for the skys.:)

I'm nearly a 130 hours in a jet, Although a joystick would be nice in some situations, I like using the mouse/keyboard. I also think if I bought a joystick this late in the game it would find it's way into the closet next to the other three older ones.

If your new to BF2 and not much time flying with mouse/keyboard, get a joystick. IMO.

i am tempted to buy a joystick simply because i want to do maneuvers that would seem impossible to do in a keyboard.

then again, i only use jets in armored fury =P
